Looks like the case is having an impact on the Russian currency: http://www.businessinsider.com/did-pussy-riot-just-take-down-the-russian-ruble-2012-8

  2. dave says:

Is patriarchy basically little boys’ clubs with “No Girls Allowed” signs, or is it more complex than that?

    • que sera sera says:

The base of the three pillars of conservative orthodoxy are misogyny: religion, policing, government. Sadly, it still is no more complex than that. And we have our three neo-con pillars busily trying to drag Canada back to Harper’s New Age of Endarkenment with anti-social injustices for some but not quite all.

  3. Craig says:

You punk rock shitcake…. let the bitches rot in a Russian jail.

The only reason you are doing this is to energize the Canadian punk rock 18-28 y.o. voting cohort and to bring them into the Liberal tiny red tent… you loser!!!

    • David says:

      You’d cheer for Stalin’s purges, I’m sure.

    • Tom says:

      Craig,

Even assuming Warren was doing this just to ‘energize the Canadian punk rock vote’ I don’t think it follows that any decent human being should advocate ‘letting the bitches rot in jail’. Does the scale of their misdemeanor really warrant that?

Yes, I am subtly pointing out you probably aren’t a decent human being. In fact, I strongly suspect you’re an asshole. Oh look! There… now I said it.

      Cheers, Tom

    • Marc-André Chiasson says:

Is this “Craig’s List” of intelligent statements? Pathetic.

  4. Iris Mclean says:

I think they are fortunate that Putin hasn’t had them snuffed out…..yet.

  5. Craig says:

Warren, you’re a good dogan and talking in Canada is cheap.

Why don’t you and your SFH pals do a Pussy Riot act at St. Paul’s Basilica in Toronto… or even better in St. Joseph Basilica on Mount Royal in Montreal.

In that way you will be bravely testing the laws in Canada and daring them to put you and your band pals in jail too in unity with the girls in Russia.

(p.s. Doing it in gay Metropolitan church is a cop out.)

      LMAO!
I love to see Conservatives wrap themselves in their manufactured greivences and parade around like petulant 2 year olds. So Craig, keep on stamping your feet and faux outrage, maybe you will get some more of the attention you so obviously crave. For now you will just have my mocking laughter, I can only hope it will be enough.

      • Craig says:

“manufactured grievances”?? On this forum?? Look in the mirror.

        • Philip says:

That’s it Craig, let it all out. Wrap yourself even more tightly in that manufactured outrage Conservatives love to display. Look at all the wonderful attention you are getting, totally worth it!!! I can’t wait until you play “victim” next, judging from your current display, it should be worth the price of admission.

    • Kevin says:

      Easy on the 50.

  6. Craig says:

Okay, here’s the incriminating evidence of “hooliganism”. The only actual Pussy Riot performance I could find was on the BBC here:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19047290

After watching this demented noise, I think they got off easy with 2 years in the pokey. Perhaps the Canadian girl could be repatriated into a Canadian jail and get off with one day of jail time… but leave Khadr in Guantanamo.

  7. KP says:

Craig, would you mind being less of a fucking moron? Adults are trying to have a conversation here.

    • Philip says:

I don’t know about that, kp. I’m kind of enjoying Craig publically shitting the bed, just to get some attention. It seems to be Conservative thing, I don’t quite understand it.

      • Mulletaur says:

I do. Harper doesn’t want to be dragged into this and his right wingnut goons know it.

We’ll just see about that, shall we ?

  8. Paul says:

Two years for doing something like this is harsh by our standards of justice.

However, if I may be blunt: WTF did they expect would happen? They pulled their little publicity stunt knowing damn well that they were living in a country where dissent is not really tolerated, and that “justice” would be swift and probably harsh.

Isn’t the whole idea of civil disobedience to become a martyr to your cause? Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison for standing up to apartheid, countless other dissidents throughout history have been imprisoned and/or executed, and these events drew attention to their causes and ultimately led to change.

    • Tim says:

Paul that’s true. John Rotten got attacked by knife wielding thugs in his day. Punks at their best are brave and willing to face the consequences. What do punks expect to happen? They don’t have a clue, because true punks make it up as they go along. To compare Pussy Riot with Nelson Mandella is a bit over the top, but those women knew what they were doing and their willingness to stand tough is more than obvious to me.

      • Tom says:

I agree with Tim. They knew there would be repercussions and likely a stiff penalty but they took the risk b/c they’ve clearly got a valid point to make. I think the penalty is overly harsh but I admire them for having the balls (metaphoric balls?) to stand up to the Putin regime. That said, just because they had the courage to stand up doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be public condemnation of the decision and efforts to bring attention to the issue.

  9. Jon Adams says:

“Those fugly girls … feminists are stupid … Those girls were disrespectful perverts.”

    Huh.

  10. Jon Adams says:

Wow. He must be a hit with the ladies.

“I’ll get back to the foreplay in a minute or two, Starla! It’s been 48 hours and I have to troll WK’s bl– website again!”

  11. Mike says:

“And judge Marina Syrova, tired from a difficult trial, will probably go on holiday and, as Russian officials do, will go relax somewhere in Europe. Maybe in Italy, maybe in Spain. In this sense, Russia, if you can consider it an Orthodox Iran, is very strange: Putinist officials can’t imagine their lives without the west. Their kids, money, property, holidays and shopping are there. And as long as the possibility to leave Russia exists, no Madonna will scare them.”

  12. Bill says:

While the punishment for this band is excessive and not proportional to their actions. I hope that the outcry is really about the increasingly totalitarian position of the Putin regime. The actions of the group, Pussy Riot were disrespectful, ill conceived and violated the rights of those that feel that the altar of a Church is a sacred place. The girls should at worst faced a modest fine and sent on their petulant way.

  13. bluegreenblogger says:

Lol, I am half convinved that WK invited Craig (and James Halifax) here to replace the Tulkasaurus as a spitball target. If so, thanks. It livens things up no end, and reminds us all of what a Conservative, totalitarian Canada would be doing if only they could.
