Martha, The Sequel

I’ve always liked and admired her, as regulars know.  She is fearless.

At this point, however, her campaign manager – my pal Carter – is better known than she is.  That said, it’s a long race, and I know the pair of them are going to make it fun.

    Warren,

Saw her once at Stornoway and she was I-M-P-R-E-S-S-I-V-E! All the best to her.

I am a Trudeau supporter. But I like MHF’s Alberta base. Maybe one day that base will change Canadian politics forever by running Allison Redford for leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Alas, its a pipe dream for now….

Trying to think of a candidate who walked into a leadership convention with such little fanfare, and walked out with so much. Of the candidates declared, she’s my preference.

Without York West supporting her on the first ballot with over100 votes nobody would even know who she was anbd then she supported Dion, and the Liberal party fell apart.

      • WDM says:

Yes, the party lost seats under his leadership and he wasn’t the best choice for leader, but I don’t care. There are few people in Canadian politics I like, or admire more, than M. Dion. Incredible commitment to this country. There aren’t many who’d stick around politics after what happened in 2008, but he did. Full credit to him for that, and for immersing himself in issues he’s tasked with.

    Who is running Sandras campaign?

Sorry, reminds me of Gerard Kennedy. A retread with a big ego. Time to move on Libs.

Sorry Martha, you had me til you came out in favour of doing away with Canada’s supply management systems……..I dont want to see Canadian farmers pour milk down the drains, just so you can get your American priced cheese(American cheddar, at least border town cheddar, by and large, tends to be crap anyways)…

As well, anyone who has driven beyond the American border towns knows that there really isnt that great a difference in the price of American and Canadian milk….US border town grocery stores use the price of milk and cheese as a loss leader and consequently, a draw for Canadian shoppers…..

Besides, I like my dairy products not to contain BGH(Bovine Growth Hormone)…..legal in the US…..not so in Canada……

Id like to see the Canadian family farm continue to survive and prosper, rather than be fully and completely dominated by agricorps, thank-you very much…..

In the meantime, I’ll be supporting any Fed Liberal leadership candidate who wants to keep marketing boards(and while were at it, anyone who wants to limit the expansion of the Alberta tarsands as well)….

Prime Minister Hall-Findlay. Has a nice ring.

This shows you how fast things change in Federal Politics in Canada. About two moths ago, her candidacy seemed silly. She’d just be in last place again, maybe 20-50 delegates. Hadn’t even cleared her debt from ’06. Lost her own seat. Etc., Etc.. However, now she may well be the second highest profile contender in the race. Trudeau has everyone second guessing their intentions except for her. I confess that I haven’t totally made my mind up about MHF. In politics “nerves of steel” are always dangerously close to “nerves of stupid”. I will say that she seems to have a knack for seeing opportunity where no one else does and having the raw skill to capitalise. Spinning gold out of the Stronach mess in 2005 and the 2006 leadership campaign are sterling examples. Her policy smarts, loyalty and authenticity are all beyond question. That is an extremely rare combination.

  9. Michael S says:

Her biggest chance is being everyone’s second choice.

  10. Christian says:

She lost her seat. Doesn’t that disqualify her based on previous “If-You-Can’t-Win-Your-Seat-You-Can’t-Win PERIOD” statements?

  11. m5slib says:

I like her new haircut. I’m not being silly… she (or her team) has upped her visuals. It makes her look more like a serious contendor. Now, she needs better posture and command at the mic.

Anyway, I’m not super gung-ho about her, but I don’t have that GK feeling abou her right now either. Mea culpa… I was all about GK in 06.
