Pupatello on homophobia

One of Kathleen Wynne’s senior campaign folks, Milton Chan, has a very important statement on his Facebook page, here.

What he is describing is completely, totally unacceptable in any modern political party. Going back years, Sandra Pupatello has gone after the Ontario PCs for their latent/explicit homophobia (They’re in the “dark ages,” here.)

Everyone in the race needs to condemn this B.S. right away. We don’t need it or want it.

I’m not seeing anything on his Facebook page.

I think it may have been posted privately.

Yeah I can’t see it. I’m interested tho in what it says…

      I’m interested too

He took it down. Dunno why. He said that some people are being homophobic towards his candidate, basically. If that’s true, it should be condemned. Not sure why the post is down. someone should ask him.

If Team Wynne can’t handle it now, they have no idea what the Ontario PCs have waiting in the wings. Hudak, Hillier, the rest of ’em – all yesterday’s bullies.

Truth is, I think Wynne’s people are scared of something more, er, short range. They know Pupatello’s pulling ahead, about to break away and never look back with all the ease of a great leader against wanna-bes. It’s like the football safety hoping for a defensive pass interference call while a great offensive play results in a go-ahead touchdown.

        I still see it

Kudos to Warren! Known Pupatello for years, great champion on these issues. doubt these whisper campaigns are coming from any of the actual leadership camps – our party is past this – perhaps a stealth campaign by the Tories considering last elxn when warren exposed their homophobic flyers (http://warrenkinsella.com/2011/10/the-hudak-pcs-unveil-their-version-of-the-face-ad/). we’re a party of ideas and moving forward and all the camps are talking about positive things for Ontario/Ontarians. couldn’t say it better myself, so i’ll just repost what warren said

Ontario is broke. A have not Province. Who cares about these silly wedge issues?

    • VC says:

I know many people that are broke, have not individuals if you will, that want to ensure that, regardless of their income and their bank account balance, that they will be treated with equal concern and respect.

It is these same people who want to ensure that Ontario, and more broadly Canada, remain a place that values the inherent dignity of a person, irrespective of their beliefs or sexual orientation.

      • dillon says:

The issue raised is whether or not gay sex education should be in the public school curriculum for grades
1 to 3. If you consider this issue to be important enough to determine who the party leader should be Liberals will be as irrelevant iib Ontario as they are in Ottawa

        • VC says:

I can respect that the economy seems to be the locus of your attention, but just because you’re hung up on a particular issue doesn’t mean everyone else should be. With all due respect, there is no single issue that determines who the party leader should be. We live in a plural society and there is a plurality of issues: we’re also free to base our choices on what issues have meaning for us.

That aside, I don’t discount issues concerned with equality and dignity, particularly if it concerns individuals at the early primary grade levels. I certainly don’t want them dragging us back into the Dark Ages when they come of age to take positions in public office.
