That was then, this is now

Toronto Star, January 17:

Liberal leadership front-runner Kathleen Wynne is rejecting Tory speculation that she would formally join forces to govern with the New Democrats if chosen premier at a party convention this month.

I have not talked about a coalition,” Wynne said after a luncheon speech to the Toronto Board of Trade…

Toronto Star, January 16:

Kathleen Wynne, a front-runner to succeed Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty, and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath are willing to work together to avert an election.

Wynne, who is in a tight leadership race with former Windsor West MPP Sandra Pupatello, said she would co-operate with Horwath or Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak.

Toronto Star, January 15:

Star: NDP leader Andrea Horwath said Tuesday that she would be open to collaboration with the next Liberal leader. Would you entertain a formalcoalition with the NDP?

Wynne: I will be reaching out to both Tim (Hudak) and Andrea (Horwath). I want the opportunity to talk to both of them. And not in a one-off, take-it-or-leave-it way, but I want to figure out how we’re going to do this, how we’re going to establish a relationship. Whichever or both of them are willing to have that conversation, I’m willing to work with them. I don’t know the level of formality. That has to come out of those conversations.

I’m with you – we can’t have our elected politicians working together to better govern the province.

  2. Michael says:

I’m not seeing it. The only word used is ‘cooperation’ – you know, the kind of thing that needs to happen in a minority parliament.

Typical politician. Backpedaling because she senses that her support is slipping. The people of Ontario did not elect an NDP government and the “progressive” Wynne “cooperating” with the NDP would be the next-worst thing to that. Hold on to your wallet and prepare to flee before they finish the job of reducing this province to economic ashes.

We, the people elected the McGuinty-led OLP as the Government of Ontario. Now that he is no longer leader and someone else that we did not even vote for as such will be taking his place, I feel that an election should be called immediately after their inauguration.

If the people of Ontario decide to buy what the (Wynne- or Pupatello-led) OLP are selling and give them a new mandate, then so be it. Otherwise… good riddance, and don’t let the door hit your asses on the way out.

“I am a Torontonian who understands the economic and cultural importance of this city and the GTA to the well-being not only of Ontario, but also of Canada,” she said.

So much for being the only non Toronto candidate in the race.

Baloney. All of the candidates are expected to cooperate with the opposition. None of them have said they would form a coalition. I want SP to be leader, but if KW became leader I am not expecting a government hijacked by wild eyed communism in the Cabinet Room.

    • Warren says:

Me neither. There wouldn’t be enough time to hijack anything. There’d be a few weeks, an election, and then a decade on third place. Nobody would want to hijack us then.

  6. Spencer says:

Warren normally I like your commentary but this is kind of a stretch. The media have also been bad on this one as well. Political ‘cooperation’ and ‘working together’ doesn’t equal a coalition. Not ruling out the option of a coalition entirely doesn’t make it that likely to happen either.
