Kormos

I am so sad to learn of his death.

He used to say that he wanted to turn me into a New Democrat. With more guys like him, I’d say, it’d be easy.

He was one in a million, this guy. A huge loss to this province.

Apt comment, Warren. Many Grits and Tories I know would say the same thing.

  2. Houland Wolfe says:

Peter Kormos was a burr under Bob Rae’s saddle and was fired from Cabinet for posing for a picture in the Sun with his clothes on. Long live Peter Kormos!

Sad news indeed. As an old Dipper, I always thought he had had a lot of class, and a great sense of humour.
The world could use a few more people like him.

Ya man, I liked the guy he had sand.

One in a million is an understatement. Is is closer to one or two in a lifetime that any of us will have the good fortune of know and calling a great human being, regardless of their political stripe. These unsung heroes, who upon their passing make many of us wonder about what could have been, but more importantly, who will replace them, are indeed very rare. I like others who did not necessary vote or support the NDP, voted, supported and will sorely miss many individual NDP MPs and MPPs elected because of who they were, what they did in public life, and because of the non-partisan way the sometimes went about it.

Reminds me of another rare individual who like Peter, did not become the leader of a party in or out of government, but who probably accomplished far more in life because they did not have to make the compromises necessary to get there or after winning. When I raise a toast to Peter Kormos, I will follow it with one to his kindred spirit former Saskatchewan NDP MP Simon De Jong, who shortly before he died, was asked what he would do if he was in Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s shoes. “It’s a bit facetious, but take LSD,” he said. “See some bigger pictures.” That was something that Peter would have said, because he saw bigger pictures, but probably not have said it so politely.
