I just voted in the Liberal Party of Canada leadership thingie

The good news: You do it online, which meant I could wear my Star Trek housecoat, skull jammies and people’s revolution T-shirt, and no one cared.

The bad news: You do it online, which makes it super boring. I mean, is that all there is? That’s it? Yawn.

Oh, and how did I vote?

With my head.

Voting with your head must have made it more challenging. I’m planning to use my hands, myself.

  2. Joseph A. says:

Just pounded your head against the keyboard to vote? Nice.

  3. J Smith says:

    Who is Karen McCrimmon?

  4. kitt says:

I voted with my finger :> My head would only let my finger vote for five candidates. No cooperation, my head says….

It’s going to be an interesting week. I am a federal Liberal Party Member, haven’t received my PIN number for voting, called the toll-free help line, the first time it was busy, the second time I selected “1” for assistance in English, an automated voice informed me that they are busy helping other callers, I waited, then an automated voice informed me that the number I am dialing is not in service and to dial 411. Then that familiar busy signal returned. How often should I try; how much effort should I devote; does my vote really matter given that the outcome is pre-determined? It should be an interesting week. (As a long time Liberal, I will keep trying until I vote but….)

Didn’t get my pin either, so I just sent them an email. They answere back in about an hour, and said if I don’t get the pin by Wednesday, call them back and I can vote by phone with my registration nummber and the answer to my security questions.

    • Mary says:

Try using this phone number to get your PIN, it is not busy

Just voted myself. Yes, voting online is boring and impersonal. I miss the good old days with the delegates meeting the locals at the Church basement. Good on OLP for sticking to that system. The hand wringing, the gossip, the war stories, the good old boys / girls. That is what politics is. This? This is pitiful, fast food democracy.

    • Swervin' Merv says:

Ah, yes, the good old days…like 2006, with delegates herding to the noble but unelectable Dion. (Jury still out on latest OLP choice.)

Trudeau didn’t need a delegated convention to pump up the passion. To use the current political vernacular, it’s “authentic” with him.

      • Sean says:

Pardon me, I was talking about the good old days which elected Laurier, King, St. Laurent, Pearson, Trudeau, Chretien

    Which head?

  8. Michele says:

I tried, several times. Apparently my credentials are not valid. Tried phoning (8 times). Not even a busy signal. Just call failed. Time to enjoy the weather.

  9. Realist says:

No problem at all voting online.

  10. Beth Higginson says:

I am a long time Liberal supporter – I have never been to a leadership convention. This process has allowed my partner, myself and my 2 daughters to vote.

  11. Bill Case says:

Two quebecois hommes and four anglo girls… go figure!

If the OLP and LPC had real women leading them, that would be a winner!

  12. Nakosh says:

Newer Canadian, fiscal conservative, social liberal family*. (libertarian?) Very impressive that the Liberals are doing this. Yes, it gets us in their mailing database (genius). Process went fairly smoothly, though CAPTCHA’s were annoying.

Daughter had to get online with Liberal support (lengthy wait but worked well); it turned out there had been a misentry of two items.

She says they were very professional and handled things swiftly, using good judgement.

It was a good exercise for getting people engaged and respecting Canadian Democracy.

    Results seem a foregone conclusion.

*No question that Mr. Prime Minister Jean Chretien was the most fiscally conservative PM since… Mr. Prime Minister Diefenbaker?

  13. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Warren,

Damn. Had I known that ahead of time, I would have put on my Star Trek badge-communicator. O’Dowd out.

  14. Bill Case says:

Pssst, Warren, so who did you vote for? Bet it was Joyce!

  15. Mary says:

    The editor,

Please remove the phone number (1 800 514 4085, ext 215) that I provided as a valid phone number for the Liberal Party. This number was provided to me only.

    Thank you.
