When we newspaper columnists tell politicians to be bold and brave

…it’s usually because our names aren’t on a ballot.

Don’t do it.  Don’t, don’t, don’t.

  1. Chris says:

She can’t help herself. Its the gay radical in her. Showing off Jane at the swearing in, the gay curriculum fist pump and now this: the foie gras approach to transit policy.

  2. That fact you are probably right makes me angry.

So, how so we fix the flaws in democracy that prevents good and bold ideas from being implemented?

    • Warren says:

Treat people’s money as if it were your own.

They wouldn’t be facing such an impossible sell if they – all of them – hadn’t blow so many billions, so many times. We all know transit fixes are needed. We just don’t trust the politicians to do it right.

      • I doubt the Ontario Liberal scandals amount to much more then one or two billion out of more then a trillion. I think most people would very happy if they only wasted 0.2% of their own money.

The biggest one, by cost, is the gas plant moves which was due to the same attitude of political expediency that you recommend here.

    • Ottawa Civil Servant says:

Two Words: Margaret Thatcher. Politicians can lead. People will follow. Even in the face of a brutal coal miners’ strike and an economy/society that was spiralling downward, worse than anything Ontario is facing following our own spending folly, daring intelligent politicians can change the game. They can change a province or a country.

Warren can recommend ducking all the hard decisions he wants, and managerial premiers can succeed by kissing babies 90% of the time, but that leads only to stagsnation and disillusionment with politics.

  3. Derek Pearce says:

So a) Wynne follows your advice, we get no stable transit funding and Toronto the goose gets further strangled with gridlock and stops laying golden eggs,

    or

    b) Wynne doesn’t follow your advice and advocates extra tolls/tarriffs/dedicated parking taxes for transit, and then because of this Hudak wins so we get no stable transit funding and Toronto the goose gets further strangled with gridlock and stops laying golden eggs.

Toronto’s new postal code should be CAT c H22
