Gawker less than $5K from goal in Rob Ford Crackstarter campaign

…and Ford’s two most-senior comms aides resign. All he has left are the young men who pass out fridge magnets at funerals, apparently.

Has Ford hired Don Cherry for communications yet?

  2. W the K - No, not Warren says:

    What. A. Mess.

The only thing he said in that press conference that I believe is, “I have no idea…”

  3. Ding Ming-Wong says:

I just donated ANOTHER $50, on top of the $250 I already donated last night.

I am so excited watching the numbers climb I think I may wet my pants!

Please everyone, chip in even just $10 or $20

Gravy and Subways, Subways, Subways, fits on a fridge magnet so it’s all the same.

  5. Reality.Bites says:

Less than $1500 now. it will be a nice donation the charity that ends up getting it.

  6. Reality.Bites says:

    And goal is reached

  7. W the K - No, not Warren says:

DING DING DING! Gawker $200K. If it goes anywhere it’ll probably to lawyers.

  8. Christian says:

They hit the target ($200,246 at time of writing). Now we wait and see….

  9. JamesF says:

So for how long does Gawker hold on to the money before deciding if the tape holder is going to surface or not. They met the $$ goal… but who knows if they actually get to claim the prize.

  10. Michael S says:

Gawker should ask Rob Ford to choose the charity the money goes to.

  11. W the K - No, not Warren says:

Oh Gawd, last week Ford hired another one of his football coaches as a “special assistant.” No wonder his qualified staff are dropping like flies.

  12. William says:

    It’s Rob Ford’s birthday tomorrow.

Seems to me someone already bought him a nice gift.

  13. Marie says:

What could possibly go wrong? Meetup @ the Village Idiot to discuss.

  14. dave says:

Does HST apply to this purchase?

  16. 200 grand into the pockets of crack dealers (and their heirs and lawyers.). Such a dubious achievement.

Celebrate all you want, but how about not electing people like him in the first place?

    • Justin says:

Its too late, it seems the poison of mindless chants and talking points is what gets you elected amoungst the dumbed down masses. “The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter”, Winston Churchill.

    • ray says:

Maybe we could all head down to Home Depot for pitchforks, borrow a few guillotines from France and resurrect Robespierre then figure out a way to get paid 150 grand each for chasing these dumb-asses out of the temple once and for all.

Warren, while we (me included, big-time) have been obsessing over the Rob Ford meltdown and Duffygate, the really big stories —400 ppm atmospheric CO2 threshold breached, on-going self-destructive tar-sands development, the Robocalls wrist-slapping, etc, — are slipping out of focus. 5 years from now how big will the Ford meltdown and Duffygate be? Whereas the climate stuff and the trashing of our democracy by Harper could be really critical. I’m not saying you shouldn’t blog about what is hot right now, and these 2 stories are nothing if not super-hot, but are we all at risk of missing out on the really big stuff? This is your party and I will read on in fascination anyway, and I can hear you right now imagining out loud how fascinating a blog on environmental catastrophe would be (joke), but…..anyway, am just wondering.

    • steve says:

Hi Bill, I am with you. The big story is how humans are crapping the bed. There are easy solutions. If we paid half the cost of energy in Europe on a global scale the problem would be more than half solved.

    • ray says:

Bill, it’s our collective dissonance at work. It’s easier to concentrate on the minutiae than the big picture. Of course it will be our downfall but unless the few that still care figure out a way to stop the psychopaths who run things it might be game over. When I look around the only meme I seem to hear is “the hell with tomorrow, I’m living for today.

    • Brad Young says:

If it takes Ford smoking crack and Duffy’s fraud to get Harper out of office, fie be me. Never mind Harper is creating a financial mess and 90k is peanuts for the govt.

      • dave says:

article in Der Spiegel about a couple on Idaho (one is an engineer) who have designed a replacement for asphalt roads with solar panels. Costs a bit more right now, but, as those particles of carbon and whatnot up there have their effects, we might need more of this kind of thing.

  18. Cromwell says:

And then there was Earl. As they say, birds of a feather flock together.

  19. What happens to the Toronto Star if the tape doesn`t exist now?

    • TedY says:

Well, I guess they go out of business. That’s the only possible outcome, right? I mean, if we’re asking stupid questions and providing dumb answers, then we might as well say that a black hole opens up at the Star’s head office and everyone there is crushed in a singularity. That will make things very difficult, I’d say impossible, for the Star to stay profitable. That is the only answer that is on par with your question. In reality, life will go on and I expect that the Star will too. I’m certain that if you’ve spent at least 4 minutes of your life on Earth, then you’d arrive at pretty much the same conclusion.

  20. DJ says:

Can’t believe people in places like Etobicoke are actually still supporting the Fords. The stubbornness of some in overlooking cocaine use and hashish dealing is astonishing. Toronto is a sad place if people like this get such widespread support. Look at yourselves in the mirror. The country and world are ridiculing the whole city. Sad … very sad!
