Right on!

    Right on is right.

I think the message here is you cannot use taxpayers money to buy elections. And you have play by the rules.

    Fuck you Steve.

  2. Mark says:

Good riddance (and I generally vote Tory). Harper would get more support from me if he would cut loose the people caught breaking the rules. Penashue shouldn’t have been allowed to run again as a Conservative, although I expect they knew he was done – other that McKay’s visit, there didn’t seem to be a big push to get him re-elected.

    • MCBellecourt says:

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Senator Penashue.

      {{{hurl}}}

      • Merrill Smith says:

Actually, there will not be any Senate vacancies for Newf-lab for about 10 years. But there is one in Ontario right now and as we’ve seen, it’s no longer important to actually live in the province you “represent” so maybe you’re on to something.

  3. Graham says:

You’ve been in the backrooms, Warren:

Any “concern” for the Liberals who polled 60% to 62% ending with 48% of the vote?

  4. !o! says:

    Not unexpected, but great news.

Lets look at the actual results vis-a-vis recent polls:

    Forum Research (Mar. 30-Apr. 2, surveying 274 people) Liberal 57%; NDP 21%; CPC 20%.
Abacus Data (Apr. 10-12, surveying 500 people) Liberal 63%; CPC 20%; NDP 17%.
    Forum (Apr. 24, surveying 427 people) Liveral 60%; CPC 29%; NDP 10%.

    Actual: Liberal 48.2%; CPC 32.5%; NDP 18.8%

Take home message: the 15.7% margin of victory for the Liberals was smaller than every recent poll predicted. People who vote are not the same as people who respond to polls, things can happen right up to the election, and often do, and although the CPC is on a downward trend in federal polls, progressives can’t get complacent.

  5. Ted B says:

OK, to summarize: the recession is behind us, the Leafs are out of the playoffs, the Liberals are winning, the RCMP is investigating Conservatives and no Canadian is currently floating around in outer space.

Sounds to me like Canada is getting back to status quo normal.

    • Lance says:

They’ve won one by-election that they were expected to win in a traditionally safe Liberal riding. If that is “winning” then maybe you ARE a Leaf’s fan.

      • Ted B says:

        No Leaf fan, bud.

But the Liberals haven’t won that riding in over a decade, they won over 50% of the vote and Harper has not lost a single seat since he became leader.

        So, yeah, “winning”.

        • Lance says:

Did they not lose successive seats in general elections in Quebec the last two or three times?

          So yeah, “losing”.

          • Ted B says:

Yes, the Conservatives have been losing. We can agree on that.

But Harper has not lost a single seat overall seat in a by-election since he became leader.

            So yeah “winning”.

          • Lance says:

Ted you initially said “Harper has not lost a single seat since he became leader” in general terms; you didn’t qualify it in regards as to whether you meant by-elections or general elections specifically. Thanks for clarifying; it makes a difference.

    • Graham says:

What Conservatives are being investigated by the RCMP?

Are you referring to the Senators expenses situation? If you are, I should remind you there is also a Liberal Senator involved as well. Harb is refusing to pay back any money. At least Duffy paid the $90,000 housing allowance back. Having said that, he, Harb and Brazeau should still be charged

      • Ted B says:

RCMP investigation on several Conservative senators. RCMP investigation with Elections Canada into Conservative election fraud. But, to date, no RCMP investigation into the missing $3.1 billion the Conservatives can’t account for.

        • Lance says:

What two other than Brazeau and Duffy are “several?”

        • Graham says:

The RCMP has no involvement in the alleged “electoral fraud” That is an Elections Canada investigation, and in well over a year have found nothing outside of Guelph, Ontario. And as I said earlier, it was an external audit investigating Senator expenses of BOTH Liberal AND Conservative Senators.

As for the “missing” $3.1 billion over a time period that included TWO Liberal and one Conservative government, the AG was rather clear there is no evidence of wrongdoing, so what would the RCMP be investigating exactly?

        • Bobulous says:

Ted, I assume you would also support an RCMP investigation into the tens of millions of dollars unaccounted for in Attawapiskat? Funny how the media have failed to follow up on that one…
