That was my first thought when I looked at her resume.
Iggy in a skirt. Did she come back for you?
She is a Canadian in name only. An American in every other way. She appears on high profile American TV shows to talk about the American economy. That’s great and all, but that’s not my country.
And since she effectively lives in New York, why would she be parachuted in Toronto? She could go to her home province of Alberta, no? Plenty of open seats there.
Finally, this public blessing by Trudeau is all but an appointment. Dancing dangerously close to the appointment line….
Actually that sounds like a good Toronto Center Candidate to me. As mentioned above, she isn’t running for leader… No one is expecting her to swing blue Liberal votes in Muskoka.
As soon as I read this I thought of Dire Staights. To paraphrase 🙂
Now that ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
talkin shit on nbc
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Money for nothin’ get your perks for free
Money for nothin’ get your perks for free
Lemme tell ya these guys ain’t dumb
Maybe get a blister on your finger
A blister on your thumb
We move refrigerators and color TV’s
Man we could have some fun.

She wants to be an MP, not jump into the Prime Minister’s job. She writes a lot about income inequality, not about justifying American interventionism. Last time I checked she was still in the journalism business.
Realize the “bit of Russia” works with your narrative of comparing her to Michael Ignatieff, but CF is Ukrainian not Russian, nor is Ukraine part of Russia.
I’m with everybody else. She’s somebody with a profile who seems willing to work her way up by vying for an open nomination. (Someone up the thread pointed out that there are lots of open seats in Alberta. Well, um, Toronto Centre is now a completely open seat too.) She’s a more interesting candidate than any of the other names that have been bandied about for this nomination. And her proven interest in issues of economic inequality will help against the NDP, who seem to be set to nominate a semi-star candidate of their own. So where’s the downside?
This a primo opportunity for all parties to finally run A-list candidates in the “Liberal stronghold” riding of Toronto-Centre.
Going by the last provincial election the Liberals didn’t even run an A-list candidate in that exercise. I attended three all candidate debates and came away disgusted by the total lack of an intelligent exchange of ideas, vision, and god forbid, excitement for downtown Toronto.
Glen “I used to the Mayor of Winnipeg” Murray didn’t even come close to actually earning the gig simply because he didn’t have to earn it and he knew it. Judging by the other party candidates, they knew the writing was on the wall and their efforts only resulted in padding a few resumes.
Get Freeland a cheat sheet, show her where the riding is on a map and let the Liberals show Toronto-Centre how much they can really, really relate to us while taking us for granted. Hopefully, no one bothers with Smitherman.
It honestly is time for things to change in Toronto-Centre. I want the dumbing-down and mediocrity to stop.

On the plus side, she is attractive, she’s articulate, she’s a woman.
Actually that sounds like a good Toronto Center Candidate to me. As mentioned above, she isn’t running for leader… No one is expecting her to swing blue Liberal votes in Muskoka.
So you’re working for Smitherman; when do you/he clarify his intentions?
I wouldn’t work for Smitherman if he was the last Liberal on Earth.
Wow. Okay.
I had fantasies of Smitherman going toe to toe against John Baird.
Yes, but is she here for us? Steve is.
Please, Steve is here for Steve!
I like her and I don’t care what nonsense the hacks will spew.
She’s smart, well informed and very well respected and if that is too far off the mark for partisans, so be it.

She’s ok – I would think about bringing in a voice coach though …

Not being groomed as leader, she would be an excellent choice.

Iggy was a prick, she ain’t,, big difference.
Such eloquence
