Because some of you were asking

…and because I haven’t commented on Ontario politics in a long time (get used to it).

Hmm, I love the jogging ad.

  2. Matt says:

Aren’t the people now surrounding Wynne the same who Ignatieff had around him after the shake up in his office in 2010?

  3. Sean says:

I also like the jogging ad. Its an activity / image that communicates a lot without saying much. IE: she is healthy, strong, determined, stoic, disciplined, goal / accomplishment oriented. Part of it appears to be in bad weather, as if to infer she doesn’t care if its a dreary, cold day outside, she’s going to do her miles because that’s the kind of gal she is.

It is also hip because it is so simple, down to earth, no production.

As with inviting parody… Don’t all ads invite parody? Why this one more than others?

    • Warren says:

Yeah, it’s awesome. It totally worked for the last politician to do a jogging ad.

      His name was Stockwell Day.

    • Swervin' Merv says:

Same thoughts here, Sean, about the “determined” jogging ad and same question about which ads can’t be parodied–depending on context. Stockwell Day was ripe for parody, having grown up with dinosaurs, as was Mitt Romney and his attempts to run from riches (as in silver spoon, Warren).

Just saw the ad. Oh dear. 22 minutes is going to have a field day. Speaking of fields who owns the McMansion she jogs by at the end of the ad. What a terrible choice of setting for a scandal plagued wasteful government.

Its going to be okay because Tim is a walking almost talking parody.

  5. Ottawa Civil Servant says:

    The ad is pure branding: I’m a likeable, I run, I’m a woman, I am non-threatening.
It avoids thinking and relies upon emotion, which is where the votes lie.

I immediately thought of the “running away from…” tag line, and the Tories were quick to do the same.

All-in-all, i think it was a waste of Liberal money. But, hey, what do I know? I’m only voted by jobs, taxes, the environment and fiduciary responsibility.

  6. She is an actual runner at least. Her Sportstats times speak for themselves: http://raceresults.sportstats.ca/find-an-athlete-find-a-race-search.php?lang=eng&first=KATHLEEN&last=WYNNE

I hope I’m that fast when I’m in my 60’s!

But you’re right… it begs for parodies!
