Toronto needs a mayor: John Tory on Rob Ford, a continuing series

A couple days ago, I posted quotage from John Tory saying that all of us had a “responsibility” to “get onboard” and help Rob Ford.  Around the same time, it was revealed, John was considering an offer to “play a role” in Ford’s regime.

One commenter told me the quote was too old.  Maybe John’s views have changed, he said.  I pointed out that John has never repudiated the “get onboard” sentiment, but fair enough.

So, here, a more-recent quote.  It comes to us this morning, which I would call fairly recent.  Here it is:

“(Ford) has done a lot of good things. He has also done what he said he would do.”

Really? That so?

Anyway. I like John very much, but on this subject, he is out of his mind.  Coming to the defence of a lying, lazy lunkhead – a dissembling drunk and and a druggie – is Yet Another Reason why John Tory will lose (badly) if he runs for mayor.

But if he wants to, go right ahead.  The more candidates there are on the Right side of the spectrum, the happier I will be. And then we can rid ourselves of the Ford pestilence once and for all.

Was it former Senator and Presidential hopeful, Gary Hart, who challenged the media to follow him closely after rumours of his extramarital affairs; then, he was caught with a woman companion, not his wife, on his yacht which was appropriately named “Monkey Business” (but no machine gun)?

Mr Tory should suggest, on air, that it is either him or the Fords on CFRB. Any other station would welcome his programme if CFRB chose the Fords over him. But Mr Tory is one of those folks who when history calls – he’s on the phone to his broker and can’t take the call.

His namby pamby comments on radio and tv yesterday were some of the most pathetic I ever heard. He tied himself into a pretzel in an effort, apparently, to be fair but just sounded rudderless and ineffectual.

Couldn’t agree more. His recent interview on CTV left much to be desired. In that interview, Tory explained away Ford’s behaviour. When it comes to Ford appeasement is the wrong course.

I don’t think Stintz, Tory, or anyone, other than maybe Mammo (how come he’s getting all the good stuff) Letti, is supporting Ford’s behaviour just the fiction of his gravy propaganda. It just blatant political opportunism while waiting for Ford to implode, as he is doing, and to slip into his space as “I’m Ford without the drama”.
I don’t think this is anything new.
And if enabling Ford gets someone into power sooner – well politics is a “bloodbath”.

Tory is on CTV Noon News right now and seems to be changing his tune slightly– he’s saying it’s a problem that the Mayor is (sic) talking out of both sides of his mouth re releasing the video but not answering questions.
