Toronto Sun exclusive. Other statements by Rob Ford:

• “I’m going to kill that f..ing guy. I’m telling you it’s first-degree murder … He dies or I die, brother.”

• “When he’s down, I’ll rip his f..ing throat out” and “I’ll poke his eyes out” and “I’ll make sure that motherf….’s dead.”

• “No one is” going to “f… around with me” and when it comes to he and his “brothers . . don’t tell me we’re liars.”

This doesn’t sound like a hyperbolic rant at all. And even if it is, it certainly lacks the decorum of someone in public office. Or someone employable for that matter.

  2. Jason O. says:

Pretty sure the media company in question that purchased the video is the Toronto Star: http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/11/07/mayor_rob_ford_caught_in_video_rant.html.

  3. Lynn says:

The man needs an intervention and now — where is the rest of the family–wife? Mother? Is there no one in the family who can stop this? We know Doug is not up to the job but there must be someone who can put their foot down and demand he seek help. His wife lets his kids witness what at home if this is his public face?
And every province should be looking at their respective Municipal gov’t acts so legal or procedural measures can be taken when an addict/buffoon has achieved some authority that should be stripped away is possible. asap.

He is clearly a drunk with other issues. Using the fact he is a drunk is hardly a good defense for his actions.

Seek help now Rob. Ford Family seek help so that they do not enable his continual destruction.

Mistakes??? Good lord, hanging the wrong colour blinds are a mistake, this appears to be a pattern of behaviour.

Toronto, I am so sorry that your world wide fame is because of this shit storm.

  4. Michael says:

Yes, but he has kept my taxes low, stopped the gravy train and is going to builkd subways, subways, subways. Everything else is irrelevant here in Ford Nation.

    • Ted H says:

Stopped what gravy train? It cost 65 million to cancel the LRT project to be replaced with subways that will probably never be built, not by his administration anyway.

  5. david ray says:

the hell with his drunken stupors. he’s now a shrunken tumour on Toronto’s naive and forgiving ass and it’s time to cut the fucking thing off.

    • Kev says:

To be fair, I don’t think the latest video was a *drunken* stupor.

Intoxicated, impaired, under an influence, yes. But not drunk on alcohol.

      • Marlowe Johnson says:

exactly. surprised that the media hasn’t picked up on this. anyone who seen someone on coke or crack see that’s it’s obvious that he IS NOT DRUNK. he’s coked out of his mind. in other words he once again lied in his ‘apology’ yesterday.

  6. Ridiculosity says:

After watching the afore-mentioned Ford Rant the thing I found most disturbing of all was the room’s décor. Swag tie-back curtains? Absolute proof that this was filmed in the suburbs. Or Sarasota.

    • Houland Wolfe says:

From the backdrop of Stephen LeDrew’s interview with the Mayor’s sister and mother on CP24, it could well have been his mother’s house.

  7. Michael S says:

I’ve changed my mind. Rob Ford needs to stay and complete his term. Toronto needs to learn its lesson on taking the ballot seriously and getting out to vote. People have died for democracy. It’s high time Toronto died of embarrassment for ignoring it. Ottawa had a taste of this with Larry O’Brien. Compared to such chicken pox Toronto’s got full blown shingles.

THIS is why your vote matters.
    THIS is why GOTV matters.
THIS is why credible candidates matter.
When you don’t vote THIS is what happens.
Rob Ford is a horror story that will remind people of the importance of the franchise for generations.

The next election is a year away. Unless he resigns you’re stuck with him. He’ll fight tooth an nail against any legislation that removes him. Good luck getting rid of him. But for fuck’s sake, settle on a single, credible alternative and get out and VOTE.

    • Domenico says:

      Well said.

    • david ray says:

mostly agree Michael but there is no way this goes on for another year. I think Jon Stewart of the Daily Show nailed it when he said it would cost him jokes at Ford’s expense but that was better than an eulogy. He is going to self destruct or destroy someone else and no-one who could have stopped him can claim they did not see it coming.

      • smelter rat says:

        Doug will.

      • Reality.Bites says:

Whether he leaves the mayoralty or not, this story ends the same way for Rob Ford. Rehab is not a magic bullet and this is not a man who is likely to see his 50th birthday.

        • debs says:

yeah he does have that amy winehouse aura about him…his weight, his denial, his demons, his temper, and tbh I bet without the job to go to everyday he would spiral even faster.

    • Warren, How about instituting a “Post of the Day”? You pick ’em. and we can lobby you. “The Post of the Day could be the most thoughtful, the funniest, the most insightful, whatever, you decide. Michael’s post about ‘this is why voting matters’ is my vote for “Post of the Day”. Ignore your responsibility to vote and you get Team Ford.

  8. Harvey Bushell says:

While he may also have been drinking that was not like any drunken freak out I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen my share). That was far more likely drug induced, probably cocaine IMO. (and I’ve seen my share of those too).

    • Reminds me (a lot) of a speed freak I knew 30 years ago. And yes, I have seen similar behaviour around the neighbourhood crack houses too. Then again, this is not so different from the bahaviour exhibited by some of the ‘tough’ kids in elementary school. Oh well, business as usual in Ford Nation

    • smelter rat says:

      Exactly what I thought.

  9. patrick says:

And and and my dad can effen take his dad and my dad’s dead. Yeah. Okay, no more sugar for you Robbie.

  10. Transcanada says:

The person Ford is ranting about is the inventor of the smartphone/with video camera.

  11. Lol, While I am sure this clip is destined to be another ‘Ford Classic’, it is not really much of a smoking gun. It seems like a pretty typical Ford scene. Is ANYBODY surprised to see a wasted Ford speaking like this? The bar has been lowered so far by this time, that anything short of an actual criminal act, whilst apparently sober, is blase.

  12. Warren's Best Friend says:

Toronto Sun exclusive? Is this a joke?

    • Warren says:

The Sun had it out first, Mike Brazao.

      • sezme says:

And that’s why it has a Toronto Star watermark?

      • Matt says:

So the Star paid for a video one of their competitors already had out?

      • Warren's Best Friend says:

They went to (cyber)press with the same freebie teaser that was shopped around to other outlets, one of which eventually bought the actual video. Broke the story? I suppose in the most technical sense imaginable, if being the first to publish a handout other news outlets have in their possession constitutes “breaking a story”. Exclusive? No. Heck, their website even linked to their arch rival for the real vid.

  13. Pipes says:

He’s high in this video, not drunk and its not marijuana he is high on. His behaviour indicates this and note he does not slur his words and he is frantic. If he was “extremely, extremely inebriated” he would not have the dexterity shown in the video.

Anyway it is only a matter of a short time before he cracks or breaks or whatever. It’s actually quite sad watching a person self destruct like that.

We live in the greatest country in the world and have the best system of government and being a democracy only the people can remove this guy and I agree with that, unless of course he ends up convicted and jailed. So as much as I would love to get rid of him, I do think the electoral process is correct and its too bad it can’t be expedited.

Can you imagine how hard the cops are working on this! He’s like public enemy number 1.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning and its coming.

  14. Steven says:

Channeling Amy Winehouse (RIP): “They tried to make go to rehab, but I said no, no, no……”

    Harper: …..no time “to commit sociology”….” I don’t care…”….

Conservative politicians: Mendacious hypocrites through and through.

  15. Francesca says:

It sounds like something Al Capone or a Mafia ringleader would say. LOL

  16. Iris Mclean says:

Surely the police have or will bring Ford in for an interview re this video.
Who was he threatening to kill and mutilate? Is that person OK? Stuff like that.

  17. dave says:

When I would get down to Vancouver, I always included a trip or two to Hastings Park(to try my newest system). I usually went through Downtown Eastside by transit, looking at the people on the street, , but, a couple or times, sunny Saturday morns, I walked. I saw users and the odd dealer going about their day, encountered a panhandler here and there. One thing I decided from seeing the people there is that they, and others in other similar places across our dear Canada, do not have the cash flow to support a multi billion dollar industry. Somebody else is buying that stuff. Somebody who can get lots of cash. My suspects are in high rise condos, suburbs, maybe even in offices that buy private suites at entertainment and sport events.

Your mayor and what is happening here might be an accurate reflection of that market. Could be that this is an opportunity, not jsut to dump it all on a political enemy, but to take note of who all actually comprises the demand for this industry.

  18. Jason says:

If I didn’t know better I’d think I was watching a WWE Video. Reminds me off the stuff wrestlers used to say in their pre-match rants.

  19. Bernie Farber says:

Years ago as a social worker with the Childrens Aid Society and the Youth Service Bureau I worked with many both young and old who were alcoholics and drug dependent. I agree with some of your commenters, the behaviour in this video seems more indicative of someone on speed, meth perhaps crack. His anxiety level is through the roof, he is talking a mile a minute…in the end his size plus his over exertion makes him a prime candidate for a heart attack! This is no longer funny.

    • Pipes says:

Agreed. He is self destructing and it seems even his family doesnt see it or understand it. I don’t think he sleeps much and that is another indicator.
      It’s becoming tragic.

It strikes me that the only one who truly cares is Flaherty.

As far as Council is concerned, Norm Kelly is looking pretty good and I think does his best to advise the Mayor, who of course isn’t listening.

  20. david ray says:

    to paraphrase Bob Dylan

    Shelter from the Fords

I was in another lifetime one of toil and blood
When blackness was a virtue and the road was full of mud
I came in from the wilderness a creature void of form
    “Come in” she said
“I’ll give you shelter from the Fords”.

And if I pass this way again you can rest assured
I’ll always do my best on that I give my word
In a world of steel-eyed death and men fighting to be warm
    “Come in” she said
“I’ll give you shelter from the Fords”.

Not a word was spoke between us there was little risk involved
Everything up to that point had been left unresolved
Try imagining a place where it’s always safe and warm
    “Come in” she said
“I’ll give you shelter from the Fords”.

I was burned out from exhaustion buried in the hail
Poisoned in the bushes and blown out on the trail
Hunted like a crocodile ravaged in the corn
    “Come in” she said
“I’ll give you shelter from the Fords”.

Now there’s a wall between us something there’s been lost
I took too much for granted got my signals crossed
Just to think that it all began on a long-forgotten morn
    “Come in” she said
“I’ll give you shelter from the Fords”.

Well the deputy walks on hard nails and the preacher rides a mount
But nothing really matters much it’s doom alone that counts
And the one-eyed undertaker he blows a futile horn
    “Come in” she said
“I’ll give you shelter from the Fords”.

In a little hilltop village they gambled for my clothes
I bargained for salvation and they gave me a lethal dose
I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn
    “Come in” she said
“I’ll give you shelter from the Fords”.

Well I’m living in a foreign country but I’m bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor’s edge someday I’ll make it mine
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born
    “Come in” she said
“I’ll give you shelter from the Fords”.

Nicely done David. I was going call this Tangled up in a drunken stupor,

      When crackheads rule
      the idea of democracy

      this planet ruled by man

      Look there is a history
      some kind of record
      even though it was
      written by repressible wretches
      We now defy our bible
      and do not keep slaves

      Yes we face huge challenges

the comparison of Ford to Larry O’brien above a bit of a stretch …look what ottawa has now a debt happy, “take my picture buddy” , my way or the hiway Watson …ugh – porofessional politicians

Anyway they are all better than Rob …

    • david ray says:

Yes it is a song Paul. You can hear it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8TayMIEUaM but I’m afraid no rapper is likely to write anything so prescient and relevant fifty years after the fact.

  22. W the K - No, not Warren says:

Ford’s mother and sister were just interviewed by LeDrew on CP24.

    Oh. My. God.

    • Pipes says:

Ya and it explains a lot! His sister was quite interesting eh? You have to question the wisdom of his mother and sister doing that. It looked pathetic.

Anyway any notion of forced rehab will fail. A person accessing rehab must want it and be ready, willing, and able. You can tell him he needs help until you are blue in the face and nothing will happen. He has to give up, surrender and as a final act of desperation want help and that is the magic moment.

Based on what I see so far, he has a very long way to get to the bottom. I overheard someone say, based on the video in which he says he wants to kill someone, that he looks like the ‘Paul Bernardo of Politics”.

  23. Matt says:

A report earlier today suggested Ford’s lawyer was negotiating with police to essentially have Rob veiw the crack video privately in exchange for the lawyer allowing Rob to answer some of the investigators questions.

If, after Rob seeing this video and assuming he sees the crack video STILL refuses to admit he needs rehab, then there really is no helping him. His family might as well start planning the funeral.

  24. Warren's Best Friend says:

At almost exactly the 2:00 minute mark, an off camera voice says “…after you win the byelection…” Could this refer to Doug Holyday’s byelection to Queen’s Park? If so, that would mean the video was taken this past summer, well after the *other video* was known to exist. Any takers on who could be the subject of his ire?

    • Matt says:

      Doubt it.

I didn’t watch it, but if that is what was said, after HE wins the by-election , I would think the person is referencing a possible by-election that might have been called had he actually been removed from office over the $3,100 to fill the mayors chair. He made it clear at the time he was going to run in it.

IF that is indeed what is being referred too, he was ordered removed about a year ago around the end of November 2012 which would be around the time he claims to have smoked the crack.

As for who is referencing in the tirade, it’s impossible to say. There are literally dozens of possibilities.

      • Warren's Best Friend says:

Astute observation. That would certainly explain the rage, as he would have been under enormous stress around the time he thought he was going to lose his seat. It would also place this video squarely within the time frame of when the *other* video is supposed to have been taken. Good call.

  25. james Smith says:

Mr Ford’s actions strike me as a cry for help by a person who’s in way over his head & does not have the capacity for either the position, or to find a way out. Listen to his latest so-called apologies and statements, without his brother to answer for him, he (sadly) has nothing to say.
While I don’t often subscribe to Mr.Keenan at THE GRID, I tend to agree with his premiss about how Mr Ford has been bullied his whole life by his older Brother. I wonder if Mr Ford was actually acting out his true feelings about his older brother in the latest video.
I really don’t like these men or their politics, but I don’t want to see Mr Ford hurt himself any more.

    http://www.thegridto.com/city/politics/worst-brother-ever/

  26. smelter rat says:

His mom, sister and brothers are all contributing to his early death. I give him less than a year, because he will not get help because of them.

    • Matt says:

I don’t normally agrre with you on most of your statements, but I gotta say I do here.

Watching some clips of that interview with his mother and sister, I just kept thinking, WTF?

At one point one of the said “He needs to talk to someone, go to counselling…….” and I thought ok, they’re telling him to get help. But the they added …….about his weight. That’s the first thing he needs to do”

      WTF?

Your son/brother has admitted he drinks too much, has smoked crack, and you think the FIRST thing he needs to do is lose some weight?

  27. DJ says:

Is there a list of councillors who still actually support Ford? There’s a whole gang of them who have enabled his mayoralty since day one. Some of them are still being soft on him for some reason. Their judgement needs to be questioned for hitching themselves to a man who has always been unworthy of the job.

  28. johnb says:

It seems to me that Rob Ford’s behavior falls well within the definition of ‘Workplace Violence’ as defined by Federal and Provincial Governments. Using these guidelines he could be barred from entering work premises.

  29. doris says:
