McPunk

I have long called McDonald’s Corporate Death Burger (h/t MDC). I also refer to a Big Mac as a “Stomach Bomb.” The first libel action against me (at age sixteen, I won) came from McD’s.  So I generally avoid the place like the plague.

However, sometimes you have no choice. Such was the case on the weekend, when I needed to quickly feed Son One and Son Two something.

The illustration below was spotted by one of my sharp-eyed sons. It looked very much to us that McDonald’s has embraced the punk ethos.

The little figure on the side of the cup is sporting a mohawk! Punk subculture is spreading!

I think they may actually be going for the Kid ‘N Play crowd.

I amassed my wealth by being a high school teacher. One thing I noticed over the decades was that styles, subcultures and such spread until teachers start wearing them…then they are over.

(This reminds me, around 1952, my blond haired 7 year old brother got a Mohawk haircut. Our father, who was in the military, reacted.)

I think John Ralston Saul’s definition is better. Big Mac: the communion wafer of consumption.

    Speaking of feeding kids…………….

“We’ve never been wealthier as a country than we are right now. Never been wealthier,” the MP for the B.C. riding of Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam said. “Certainly, we want to make sure that kids go to school full-bellied, but is that always the government’s job to be there to serve people their breakfast? “Is it my job to feed my neighbour’s child? I don’t think so,” he said.’

James Moore is an over simplified piece of ignorant shit.
As if children have the ability to feed themselves. There is nothing as quiet as a child going hungry.

What the hell is wrong with this country.

    Merry Christmas

This ignorant piece of s**t will be running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada when “Dear Leader” packs it in…..
Thank-you for sharing this with us Pipes, for showing us exactly the kind of man this highly overrated and self-absorbed MP is……and yes, Mr. Moore, it IS our collective job to feed our neighbours child if that child is going hungry……

Why the heck did McDs sue you at the ripe age of 16?

My memory is vague but there once was a high school magazine called “Prometheus”. (After each issue one or more, sometimes all, of those involved -but always the proprietor of this site- were called to the office and threatened with expulsion for one or more offending bit of content.) Anyway, I believe it had to do with a “behind the scenes” article about what it was like working there. The folks at Micky D’s got upset because the bit was not conducive to recruiting pimply faced high schoolers that comprised the bulk of its evening/weekend workforce.

Also, I’m not sure about how I feel about this punk sub-culture spreading. I remember back in the day our campus radio would play the Ramones or Iggy Pop, etc. and every month one or more of the executive were called into the student union office and threatened with closure. Now Blitzkrieg Bop is played before NHL face-offs and Lust for Life sells caribbean cruises. Chalk that up as a “victory” or “sell-out” ?

Yeah–but they never play the whole song. I’ve heard some Clash and Against Me!, as well–at least in Edmonton. Much better choice than friggin’ Bon Jovi or Puddle of CreesStain’dTheoryof aNickledoucheback…

I’m not sure if it is still a ‘subculture’ when McD’s starts using these icons or images.

You sure that’s not Fido Dido?
