Is this news story anti-Semitic?

Well, using Harper’s definition of anti-Semitism, it is anti-Semitic to single out this delegation for criticism. So, no one say anything about the homophobes and Islamaphobes and loons who are part of it, okay?

Of course it is, just as any criticism of the tar sands gets you branded an eco-terrorist. This is the new Canada that we were promised. Criticism of the left, gays and anybody else not with the program is perfectly acceptable. Others need not apply.

    • david ray says:

well I guess that makes me an eco-terrorist. I wrote a tune last week during the Neil Young brouhaha called After the oil spill in honour of Harper. Few if any have a platform like Neil does but it doesn’t mean we can’t make art and voice our anger any way we can.

Good song David, and I’m sure John Prine would approve too.
Are you the Canadian David Ray who put out an album or three back in the early seventies?
If so, I was a big fan.

        • david ray says:

Nope. Not me Iris. I only started writing tunes as a way to process the anger I felt over the G20. Still not over it. Oh Lord, did I not credit John Prine’s Paradise. I thought I had so will do that asap. I only write the songs because they wont’ stop coming. I am not a performer or musician and there is no future in topical music Tom Morello notwithstanding. People don’t much like having the truth pointed out to them as witnessed by last week’s pushback against Neil Young.

It will be duly noted in CIMMS, don’t worry.

Stockwell Day? Good Lord! Pastor Shawn Ketcheson? Double Good Lord!
I suppose Canadian homophobes should be represented, or at least Harper does.
    Gawd save Canada!

I don’t laugh aloud very much, I’m old, and it takes so much energy, but I LOL’d when I read in the article the quote from Diamant saying that this delegation represents a cross section of Canada…

Not sure how it works with treaties, accords, trade pacts and such that the executive of our country can just go ahead and sign them without having them go through parliament. Given SH’s Knesset speech linking the BDS with anti Semitism, I’m curious as to whether or not these agreements are going to have us taxpayers chipping in to help Israel weather the BDS movement.
FOI would let me see what’s in these agreements, wouldn’t it?
    Wouldn’t it?

  4. G. Babbitt says:

It may be Harper’s definition, but nobody else in Parliament is challenging it. Kudos to you for pointing the dangers of this demonizing discourse.

  5. sezme says:

Did Harper’s cross section of Canadians include First Nations leaders? I’m curious about their take on the plight of the Palestinians.

    • Iris Mclean says:

Fat chance for that. They`d be as welcomed as Neil Young.

    • dave says:

Seems to me that David Ahenikew had just returned from a visit to Palestine when he was taped by the Saskatoon newspaper reporter. That pretty well ended Ahenikew saying anything publically about what his perceptions were of Palestine.

  6. Matt says:

What exactly is the media’s proof the pastor in question is a homophobe?

According a Globe & Mail article, he said he was against the new Ontario sex education course. His quote was something to the effect “That which the Bible teaches is wrong, the school system now teaches is right” Based on that quote, they have decided he’s homophobic? In the media’s eyes, anyone following the teachings in the Bible is a homophobe?

    All righty then.

      • Matt says:

        Homophobe. Phobia. Fear.

Homophobe or homophobia = an irrational fear of homosexuals.

How does a PASTOR, giving a sermon IN CHURCH quoting Bible versus which call homosexuality a sin equate to him being a homophobe? You’ll hear the same in pretty much every church in every branch of Christanity. And as I understand it, the part about homosexuality was about 2 minutes of a 36 minute sermon about sin.

And for the record I’m not at all religious, nor do I believe homosexuality is a sin. I believe it’s genetic. A person doesn’t choose to be gay, anymore than a person chooses to be straight.

        • smelter rat says:

So…your’e point is that they ALL do it, so it’s no big deal? Good to know.

          • Matt says:

            Really?

You know what my point is. Just because someone doesn’t agree with the homosexual “lifestyle” for lack of a better word, or doesn’t believe homosexuality isn’t a choice doesn’t make them homophobic.

Lots of people, both religious and non religious were upset at Ontario’s new sex ed course that tought kids as early as grade three about homosexuality and “gender fluidity”. Doesn’t make them homophobic.

Given your past postings, using childish comebacks or “Keep sucking that Harper dick” to those who disagree with you, I’n not suprised at your response here.

Typical of those on the left, anyone who doesn’t toe the lefty line on homosexuality is a homophobe. Anyone who questions Native leaders claims about anything is just a racist.

It’s tired, pathetic and the fall back position when you’re losing the debate.

          • smelter rat says:

Given your tiresome right wing ramblings, I guess we’re even.

    • dave says:

At first I thought you were asking a question…but then you said the perception that the guy is prejudiced is based a on two sentences by the guy. I guess the media didn’t check it out with a second source.

  7. James curran says:

Nice try. I’m not wading in. Last time I did I had to start a whole new Liberal Aggregator.

  8. e.a.f. says:

so according to Herr Harper if you do not agree with all Israeli policies you are anti semitic. So how does that work if you are Jewish and don’t agree.

This is simply more of the dumb lines the cons use. we had Vickie Toes and his, you stand with us or you stand with the pedophiles.
then we had, the environment supporters were terrorists,
then we had some comment by MacKay about if we didn’t agree with his wire tapping we were in favour of some other dastardly thing. Oh, really who pays attention to such outlandish comments.

You really hope some one is collecting all these “cute” comments and keeping them for the future. Sort of like the little Red Book that was put out , with all of Vander Zalm’s quotes. Its till funny today.

    • Matt says:

No, that’s not what Harper said.

He said those who choose to ONLY criticize Israel and ignore the actions of others in the region are participating in anti-semitisim.

      • Kaspar Juul says:

Is that like the Conspeak where the only way you can criticize the Tories is with a “but the Liberals did it too”

        • Matt says:

          Odd.

I didn’t mention anything about the Liberals, nor does your comment even make sense in context to what I posted. By using “but the Liberals did it too” that would suggest the Liberals also said what Harper did. They didn’t.

I suggest you actually read the text of Harper’s speech, and not just the CBC’s interpretation of what Harper said.
