Open letter to Ford Nation

Dear Fellas (because you mostly are):

Here we go again. Rob Ford comes to work mid-afternoon, or not at all. He raises your taxes, and his fiscal claims are BS. And – now – we see that he regularly used taxpayer dollars (your tax dollars) to pay for his personal stuff. Oh, and he’s raising taxes, too.

He broke his word to you, Ford Nation. Don’t vote for him again, boys.

Sincerely,

Warren

  1. Warren Warren Warren. Haven’t you heard? It’s not what you’ve done. It’s not what you promise to do. It’s not even whether you’ve broken your problems.

What matters is: My party, right or wrong.

So long as Rob Ford is somebody’s “Our Guy”; so long as Kathleen Wynne is somebody’s “Our Gal”; inertia prevails.

To paraphrase and extrapolate from House: If you could reason with partisans, there would be no partisans.

    Have a good weekend.

    Paul

  2. *broken your promises*, not “broken your problems”.

    Coffee should be administer intravenously.

  3. *administered*

    I give up.

    When will these people learn?

The more they do this kind of stuff, the more popular Ford becomes. It feeds into his “lefty citizens and the media are out to get me” mantra.

Given the fact everything in those documents, at this point is unproven allegations, and the fact the integrity commissioner got smacked in the whole fundraising using city letterhead incident, I think this will quietly go away.

    • Adam says:

Wut? First you’re saying “stay quiet, Warren!” then you’re saying “Ford’s problems will go away quietly”. Which is it? Should we ignore Ford’s constant wrongdoing? Give him an easy ride in order to avoid helping him? Avoid talking about politics altogether in case someone’s mind gets changed as a result?

Warren, Ford is faith, not reality. And since we have been conditioned to believe without proof, in magical solutions, and that wearing something shiny and official makes everything you say super smarterer, pointing our reality to Crack Nation is pointless. It is so perverse that I’m sure Crack Cocaine is now an official sacrament of Ford’s hordes.

  6. Ted H says:

Hey Ford nation guys, answer this simple skill testing question and you could win a chance to have drinks with the mayor himself. “What colour is your blue sweater”?

  7. Mark says:

    Warren:

Were I involved in a campaign. I would consider taking a page from the “Say it simply, say it often” school used by the Fords.

Simply respond to every statement Mr. Ford makes with “Rob Ford lies”. It’s direct, to the point, and may actually get to the base levell of Ford nation. The Toronto “everyguy code” is pretty simple. Everybody buys 1 round for the table, the Habs suck, unions are full of lazy bastards and don’t lie to your bro’s.

Keep adding “But of course, he lies” or “but then, he could be lying” to pretty much every Ford comment your campaign makes, and you’ll do way more damage than any number of factual corrections or 27 8×10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against the Fords.

Or maybe I’m just full of it. Who knows.

    • doconnor says:

The thing is Rob Ford doesn’t lie. The things he says he sincerely believes at the time. The fact what he says is contradictory, completely unsupported, hypocritical or undecipherable goes right over his head.

Of course, this would be a much worse condemnation then lying, but I guess it is too hard to explain in sound bites.

      • doconnor says:

Most of his denials where carefully phased not to really deny it. Besides, he was so drunk he can’t really remember, anyway. The human mind is very effective at twisting things so it can mantain the belief that is in the right.

  8. Ian Howard says:

Rob Ford is the modern day embodiment of the know nothings.
His popularity is based in the suspicion that whatever troubles or ills the city may have they can only be understood as the result of politics that are interested in every demographic except my own. As interests align looking to secure portions of the electorate ideas become less and less important for their own sake. Spin doctors and political experts worry about electoral victories not about solutions. Ford is as much a creation of tactics that seek to divide through polarization as any real affection of what he represents.
I wonder if real dialogue was ever possible or what we have now is just a more transparent representation of the norm.

“I have to say this in defense of humankind: No matter in what era in history, including the Garden of Eden, everybody just got there. And, except for the Garden of Eden, there were already all these crazy games going on, which could make you act crazy, even if you weren’t crazy to begin with. Some of the games that were already going on when you got here were love and hate, liberalism and conservatism, automobiles and credit cards, golf and girls’ basketball. Even crazier than golf, though, is modern American politics, where, thanks to TV and for the convenience of TV, you can only be one of two kinds of human beings, either a liberal or a conservative.”

    Kurt Vonnegut

ford behaves badly and he is still mayor. it makes people who behave badly feel good about their behaviour and that is why, they continue to support ford. Some one behaving badly made it to mayor, so maybe they can also or it at least minimizes their bad behaviour
