Wow, is Gwyn ever going to catch shit for this one

“A good case can be made that the best result for Canadians and for Canada in the election due in 2015 would be the re-election of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.”

Wow! Richard’s throwing it down, baby. I disagree with him, naturally, but I admire his intestinal fortitude.

As I was (nervously) preparing for my Sun Media gig a few years back, Angelo Persichilli told me a good columnist’s job is never to be predictable. As such, Richard Gwyn is a great columnist!

A good case can also be made that it’s high time for Gywn to buy a double-wide in Pensacola and move there permanently.

I’d rather vote for the Hell’s Angels than have another 5 yrs of stevie slime.

Don’t mistake intestinal fortitude for being too old to remember if you were going up the stairs or down the stairs.

There is a reason the Supreme Court and Canadian Senate have mandatory retirement at 75 years of age. The Toronto Star would be wise to abide by it. “Unpredictable” panders to entertainment over sincere thoughtful analysis and postulations; his column should be in the fiction section if not the comics page.

As far as I am concerned now, Richard Gwyn has served notice: “DO NOT TAKE ME SERIOUSLY”! Duly noted – he’s definitely well past his ‘best before’ date!

Perhaps hes fishing for a Senate appt. ala Duffy…….though it would be hard to match Mr. Duffys sycophancy when it came to the ReformaTories……

Whoops…. just realized the aged Mr. Gwynn is past the age for eligibility for the Senate…..

Oh brother. What a cliche…another columnist trying to be contrarian, just to be contrarian. I wonder if Gwynn re-wrote this piece a few times before he remembered that he already wrote it once.

I don’t like Stephen Harper. I think he and the Cons are going to bring about the ruin of Canada.

However, why would Gwyn be wrong? Is the media any more objective than it was last time around? They still skirt around the real issues when Stephen Harper dangles a billion-dollar ad ‘Economic Action Plan’ campaign in front of the likes of Quebecor, Bell and Rogers, so why would anyone in the mainstream be critical of them at the expense of fat bonuses from public ad dollars? During the last election, despite growing unease about a number of creeping scandals, the mainstream media still stood behind Stephen Harper and endorsed the Conservatives. Why would that change? With endorsements, comes sheepish decision making from voters.

And why would you expect voter apathy to turn 180 degrees into voter enthusiasm? Why would you expect anything other than a decrease in voter turnout? And finally, why would you expect any fewer tricks from this cabal of crooks, jacking more phones, plaguing more polls and spinning more stories than ever before? These people fight to win. What are the Liberals or NDPers doing to deserve a win? The Cons will be pulling ALL the stunts in the coming months and next year to WIN. When will progressives do the same?

Well, well. What your little piece says to me: unless the other parties behave like they’re in a mid-Africa kleptocracy, unless they lie, they steal, they cheat……….. then the election is not worth fighting because you don’t bring a poof-duster to a fight with the mafia.

Maybe I mis-understood your piece which WAS well written.

  8. The thesis of Gwyn’s column reminds me of the old saw; Why are you banging your head against that wall? Because it feels so good when I stop.
Why do you keep electing Stephen Harper as Prime Minister?……….
