Has this ever happened before? Bonus: free political advice

Canada being tops in medals, that is. I know it could change, of course, but if I were Stephen Harper, I’d figure out a way to get that budget voted down, and have an election right now.

I’d love to see the faces of the parents of Canadian Olympic athletes whenever they have to endure yet another airing of that $75 Children’s Fitness Credit ad the Conservatives keep broadcasting.

$75 doesn’t buy you squat on a ski hill, let alone the new equipment that growing kids need almost every year.

No one is forcing it on you, Ridiculosity.

And yes, it happened in 2010 right here in Vancouver. We ended up with more Gold medals than any other country!! Yay Canada.

      • Ridiculosity says:

Sorry, but Harper’s Government is forcing those $75 Child Fitness Credit TV ads on everyone – and all of us – from coast to coast to coast are paying for them.

I’d much rather my tax dollars went directly into the pockets of the coaches and athletes (and the parents who get up at 5:00 am to make sure they get to the rink on time.)

The conflation of hockey, Cherry and the military, and uber nationalism suggests that would be ok to be conservative and wait for the hockey results.

No, never seen this before! I can remember when we average about 3 medals for the entire games. Calgary we won a total of 5…no gold.

Amazing what Canadians can accomplish when we finally grow up and get past all that silly nonsense about feeling guilty for being the best at anything.

    Right on!!!

    • dave says:

Yeah, maybe growing up is it…could be tens of millions of dollars helps, though. All the winter sports I see at the Olympics cost a lot of money, – locations, equipment, – and are not available to very many Canadians.

  4. Greg Vezina says:

Be carefull what you wish for Warren. Harper might not call or arrange an election because of today’s Winter Olympics results or tomorrows Budget, but he might call an early one after the Supreme Court of Canada rules on the Senate reference later this year, to take advantage of the Liberals and NDP being in the middle of nominating candidates for the 338 new ridings and forcing them to do many of them over in the existing 308 ridings.

    • Kev says:

No party is nominating candidates for the existing ridings (other than for by-elections), unless the existing riding is one of those unchanged in the new map configuration.

  5. Kev says:

I don’t know anyone who bases their vote on the Olympic medal count.

    I await Ms. McLean’s rejoinder pooh-poohing Canada’s medal efforts with bated breath……

    • Iris Mclean says:

Very funny. Woo-Hoo! Our bozos can slide down hills faster than their bozos!
This will change our lives forever… We should be so proud, or whatever.

  7. Patrick says:

We won the medal count at home in 2010, y’all.

Golds count for more than the others.
