You wanted “independent” Senators? Well, you got ’em.
And this one in particular – my friend Senator Downe – knows where the bodies are buried around Parliament Hill. He’s not to be trifled with.

Although definitely in the “careful what you wish for” category, I am interested in seeing how Trudeau handles such a situation: head on with communication or smother with an iron fist. The Cons will be throwing everything they can at him, so let’s see how he can take these hits. There will be more, much much more.
However, that said, this is exactly the same old BS we’ve come to expect from the Liberal Party and its members, where they are better at attacking themselves, or people of the “same political persuasion”, than they are at holding the government to account. Newly independentized, this Senator wheels around and fires point blank on his old party. The guy gets his name briefly in the media, in a self-aggrandizing way that harms his (former) party more than anything, and gives a bunch of ammo to the other parties, who will most likely let this die as they are not ready for so much scrutiny either.

No one does internal back stabbing quite like Liberals. One might think they would grasp the concept of when you’re leading in the polls, the best thing to do is avoid a public display of self serving squabbles and personal vendettas.
