Toronto needs a mayor

A second video of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking what has been described as crack-cocaine by a self-professed drug dealer was secretly filmed in his sister’s basement early Saturday morning. The clip, which was viewed by two Globe and Mail reporters, shows Mr. Ford taking a drag from a long copper-coloured pipe, exhaling a cloud of smoke, his right arm convulsing. The footage is part of a package of three videos the dealer said was surreptitiously filmed around 1:15 a.m., and which he says he is now selling for “at least six figures.”

The solution isn’t rehab. This is.

Come on RoFo, i’m trying to watch the Raptors save this game!

  2. Yukon Cornelius says:

It’s astonishing to me that anyone would even consider voting for him again. Seriously, wtf?

  3. Steve says:

How does Tory feel next week when the polls still show him playing spoiler?

Does he take one for the city and continue the doomed race or does he take his ball and go home? And by ball I mean his g5 and by home I mean blue mountain.

(My fave slip of his Everyman charade on 1010 was when he mused about flying to blue on the weekend to take his granddaughter skiing)

Anyway. Pretty sure Olivia’s a lock either way. I just hope you guys have a two player strategy if Tory takes it personally that he can’t crack cracky’s base.

If it weren’t for all the video/audio coming out, I’d be tempted to say it was a clever campaign strategy to woo voters from Tory who would otherwise disqualify RoFo because of personal issues, but the stuff is pretty damning and even if he does return to campaign, he’s blown the entire starboard side out of his own galleon with this one.

  5. Coelocanth_Jones says:

Maybe he can take Sarah Thompson with him?

  6. debs says:

lets hope his honour actually manages to go thru with a fullpackage of rehab, its going to take more then 30dys to clean up his bad habits.

This is the legacy of Toronto conservatives at the municipal level. That they would support such a bafoon in the first place speaks volumes about them. Thanks for tarnishing the city and country. Rob Ford is your doing. He’s in your company as a movement.

And here I thought he was at your show on Saturday…..guess not.

Schucks, folks love a redemption story. I wager by the time he comes out of detox, his popularity will be higher (Charlie Sheen?) – after all, is a lot of people in Toronto who loves their cocaine. This is merely a sympton of the generalized debauchery is it not? Personally, the fact INFRAN was declared a “terrorist entity” was bigger news – and yet another reason why the Dear Leader should resign. Well, no matter. Rest assured the other parties will be ramping up the opposition research – it’s really all they’ve got left isn’t it? The Globe n’ Mail isn’t the only Stasi-like outfit with a fine tooth comb. If you can’t rise up to their level, bring them down to yours. May Jenny follow-the-money Kwan prove a Harbinger. I predict a long, hot summer of intense mud wrestling. Meanwhile, Putin just got off the phone with Beijing; annexing the Innuit lands is a go. Time to wake up people!

I am not well versed in Politics as you may have perceived from some of my comments. But I am very knowledgeable re substance abuse (over 20 years experience, 45 years if I include my own “trials”). If Ford goes to rehab he will not be successful if: The Treatment does not last at least six months, he returns to politics, if he does not go to CA (Cocaine Anonymous) or Aftercare supplied by his treatment centre for two years, he becomes humble, he has not made the choice himself for rehab, he keeps the same group of friends. Is there no Occupational Health Dept. at City Hall with the mandate to help people before they get this sick?. In my experience working at an excellent private rehab here in Toronto he would not be allowed a stay less than three months. Furthermore his problem is Polysubstance abuse. CAMH and most of these facilities require two weeks free from MJ before admission to inpatient unit because MJ withdrawal peaks at one week (dangerous to work with someone in this state unless in a secure Detox). Also he will need at least two weeks of medication for treatment of Alcohol withdrawal. Have you seen the white knuckles holding the podiums when he is in sedative (Alcohol) withdrawal hiding “the shakes”? Furthermore, he is showing signs of “no insight”. I wish him well. Nobody believed that I was telling the truth until I was clean for two years, made it to eleven. I did not follow all of my own advice above. I had low insight re my resiliency to stress so after being diagnosed with a major illness in 1999 I blew it and after much suffering am using harm reduction successfully which means only one medication, prescribed, monitored up the ying yang. Mr. Ford may not live much longer unless he encounters some sort of miracle. I give him a one in one hundred chance unless his plans get way more serious. I saw so many people led to rehab by others, by circumstances, not one got clean. One has to bring one’s self to rehab heart and soul. I wish him well. I hope he never sets foot in City Hall again.

    • Warren says:

      Thanks for this.

    • Matt says:

New friends, yes clearly he needs new friends, BUT he also needs to get the fuck away from his family, especially his sister and mother.

      • debs says:

yep, his sister and mom are toxic, but most important he needs to believe he has a problem and the very good experience based comments from John Werry above, hightlight this well. Rob needs to get help because he wants to improve…..not because his lawyer says the gig is up unless he does, or because he got caught out on video again. Those sort of situations give the addict room to blame others…..something Rob looovvves to do. He then moves right back into the denial phase.
my hunch, he does a short stint of rehab, goes back to drinking with the promise to his friends and family that this time he has it under control. Something addicts never do when they are under the influence. Then he dies from heart failure.

  11. Lance says:

Even Ford has to know the gig is up now.

    • Matt says:

      I don’t know about that.

      People love a comeback.

    • smelter rat says:

He has zero insight, so i wouldn’t count on it.

      • Coelocanth_Jones says:

If he’s serious at all about getting clean this time, he’ll have to quite publically acknowledge the 300,000 strong cohort of knuckle draggers who will still jump at the change to vote for him, and his family, as enablers. Should be fun

  12. Steve T says:

IMHO, having a substance abuse problem is a far lesser sin than being a pathological liar. The former you can seek treatment for. The latter sits in the core of your being.

That’s why Toronto should boot out this idiot at the next election – not the substance issues.

    • Dan says:

People with substance abuse problems tend to lie pathologically about their problem and the severity of it…

  13. PeggyW says:

He’s still not admitting to drug addiction, just referring to “poor choices” under the influence of alcohol. He can’t possibly be successful while still in denial.

    • Matt says:

      Knowing nothing about addiction:

Since he APPEARS to only smoke crack when he’s drunk off his ass, is it possible he isn’t getting the effects of, or the full effects of the crack?

  14. Iris Mclean says:

The only people I feel sorry for are his two young kids. Nobody deserves a parent like Ford.

    • Coelocanth_Jones says:

The ball’s in renata’s court as to whether she believes herself and the kids deserve something better
