    Derek Pearce says:

Alright, I feel like this is the only place I have free voice to say, “but how.”? I have seen so so so so so much ballyhoo about this on social media— and yet, how do we make this right? I am being practical. I want these medieval motherf*ckers droned into non existance– yet, is drone warefare right? Should Nato send in special forces to locate the camp? If they do, do they send in further special forces to liberate the girls? If they do that, do they get blamed for the deaths of the hostages and other collateral casuaties? I want western countries to be all imperial and western and in-your-face-radical-wrong-misogynist-islam and do this, I do, but I don’t want to read all the fucking tut-tutting afterward about what went wrong. We, “the West,” dont know what we want– we want the poor enslaved girls rescued but we don’t want any afterburn if you know what I mean. This shit (Boko Haram bullshit) makes me feel utterly unguitly about western imperialism, but I don’t have the energy to defend it after inevitable backlash about how wrong we are to interfere in the third comes afterward. We can’t have our cake and eat it. If these girls get rescued by western forces, don’t bitch to me about poor villages being levelled in the western Nigerian forest for fuck sake, the world is complicated.

Yes, drunk as a skunk quite frankly but I stand by everything I ineloquently said. If there is a rescue mission, I will afterward ignore the coverage of how it was botched.

    Paul Brennan says:

May be bad optics but I (Nato, BRIC , Nigerian forces, private army) would go work a rescue . Just because its the right thing to do for that list of young girls/women – public opinion in places be damned.

Around the world, how many girls are sold into marriage on a typical day?

    e.a.f. says:

these women/girls are gone. they may have been “married” off, but just as likely “sold”. The world simply must be safer for women and girls, just as it should be safe for men and boys.
However, it is unlikely anything will happen. In Canada we can’t even protect First Nations women/girls. We have only to look at the 1,200 missing/murdered women in Canada. In B.C. we have our Highway of Tears. Its been going on for over 20 yrs. Nothing changes. In this world girls/women are a disposable commodity and I’m not blaming men for it either. There are enough women in leadership positions in Canada, that missing women could be a priority but if it isn’t happening to them or theirs, they don’t care. The women who disappear are not wealthy. They don’t have “high status” and therefore are disposable. In B.C. when the provincial government settled with Pickton’s victims families, the families were paid $50K. Thats with a female premier, female attorney general, etc. so given what happens in Canada, how does any one things will be any better in Africa.
