Ontario politics prediction, in 140 characters or less

  1. Matt says:

What did you think of Hudak forcing a confidence vote minutes after Sousa finished presenting the budget?

For those who missed it, it obviously failed because the NDP ABSTAINED. Horwath and her team sat on their hands.

Horwath also refused to make herself available to the media yesterday.

    • VC says:

Hudak didn’t force a single thing. Budget bills and other appropriations measures are always and automatically confidence measures in Canadian parliaments.

And to say that the NDP sat on their hands is a significant misrepresentation of the confidence vote that hasn’t even happened yet. In fact, the budget bill was merely introduced in the house yesterday. There hasn’t been a vote, let alone debate over the bill. There was no vote to ‘Abstain’ from, as you mistakenly attribute to the NDP members.

As it stands, there is no date for a vote – confidence or otherwise – on the budget introduced yesterday.

Where do you get your information? Do you just make things up?

  2. Matt says:

And speaking of the budget, Sousa outright lied to Ontarians in the legislature yesterday. He said “98% of Ontarians will not see any tax increas with this budget”

They’re going ahead with their Ontario Pension Plan scheme. That calls for a 1.9% payroll tax. Every Ontarian with a jod is going to have 1.9% less income.

Brian Lilley worked it out. This Liberal OPP scam will cost the average Ontarian ove $800 a year.

    • Paul Brennan says:

and it will cost all businesses without pension plans another $800 per employee in matching funds… not to be alarmist but this will cost many ontarians wage hikes and some Ontarians their jobs as employers try to manage the wage bill as hydro/gas prices skyrocket

Also what will be the cost of running the Ontario equivalent of the CPP as a seperate bureaucracy run by investments experts making millions in high end office in Toronto

This stuff is scary really – intention are good but unaffordable

    • VC says:

Do you even know how pension plans work because you sound very confused about the issue. You do realize that contributors to the plan are the beneficiaries, right?

To call a pension plan a scam is very misleading. I have a pension plan that I make contributions to with an amount matched by my employer: am I scamming myself or is my employer scamming me?

And what’s more, not every Ontarian will be making contributions to the new pension plan. In fact, millions of workers will be exempt. Do you just reproduce conservative talking points?

  3. sezme says:

But if Horwath doesn’t blink, will Hudak be the short-term beneficiary?

  4. Paul Brennan says:

such childs play ..explain what happened yesterday to your kids and teens and ask them if it a good idea to skip out on something this important as NDP did …my kid asked if it was same group that yelled at each other across the aisles…I guess they do that too at Queens park but she was referring to HOC…

  5. Coelocanth_Jones says:

This prediction has already stood the test of time
