What is GOTV?

You hear weirdos like me talking about it a lot.  And, in super-tight elections like Ontario 2014, Get Out The Vote isn’t just something – it’s everything. Whoever has the best GOTV on Thursday wins: it’s as simple as that.

Here’s a great Obama 2012 vid about what it is, and how they did it, in simple terms.  Below that, an American conservative outfit’s not-bad nuts-and-bolts vid on the last 72 hours, which is what we’re now in.

Any idea if the Liberal GOTV is going to be as strong under Wynne as it was under McGuinty?

  2. doconnor says:

The GOTV can make a difference in close ridings. One problem it that it can be very difficult to predict which ridings will be close.

However the federal NDP’s success in Quebec shows you can still win without no get out the vote.

“There is going to be a high degree of chaos”…

    words to live by indeed…

Elections Ontario is supposed to release their first batch of advanced poll turnout numbers today at 5:00PM.

David Akin of Sun News, while not giving details said it is down from 2011.

2011 saw the lowest voter turnout overall in Ontario’s history.

The days of GOTV are dead. Its just a way to manipulate volunteers into thinking they matter.

Unless you believe that American election are rigged, it seems to have worked twice for Obama.

      • Kelly says:

Well we are pretty sure one a few years back was rigged. Had it not been there might never have been the wars lost in Iraq and Afghanistan

        • Just askin' says:

…because only Republicans and regimes America disagrees with are capable of rigging elections. Gotcha.

    Interesting.

The Sun, National Post, Globe & Mail editorial boards endorsed Hudak.

The union that represents journalists who work at those papers today came out against Hudak.

Those are the same people who don’t understand Rob Ford’s popularity. Living within an echo chamber has its consequences, especially when you think you can alter other people’s opinions simply by expressing your own.

    Tea Party “Economics” 101

A Globe and Mail headline: “Hudak turned to American right to craft platform”; the article outlines the top-level American operatives Hudak met with including Grover Norquist, founder of Americans for Tax Reform.

During the “Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal” investigation, it surfaced that Jack Abramoff suggested that they use Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform as a conduit. ATR passed checks of up to $300,000 from the Choctaw to Reed’s firm, in one case taking $25,000 as a “management fee.” Abramoff and Scanlon were alleged to have conspired with Washington power broker Grover Norquist and Christian activist Ralph Reed to coordinate lobbying against his own clients and prospective clients with the objective of forcing them to engage Abramoff and Scanlon to lobby against their own covert operations. Reed was paid to campaign against gambling interests that competed with Abramoff clients. Norquist served as a go-between by funneling money to Reed. (Wiki).

(It was Reed who ran Pat Robertson’s Christian Coalition evangelical network; recall, Robertson declared: “Many of those people involved in Adolf Hitler were Satanists. Many were homosexuals. The two things seem to go together” and, “The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.”)

Emails now made public by the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, Abramoff repeatedly referred to Native Americans as “monkeys,” “troglodites,” and “morons.” About one tribal client Abramoff wrote to Scanlon: “These mofos are the stupidest idiots in the land for sure.” On January 3, 2006, Abramoff pleaded guilty to three felony counts—conspiracy, fraud, and tax evasion—involving charges stemming principally from his lobbying activities in on behalf of Native American tribes.

Conservative operative Jason Kenney – one of Canada’s original anti-nation cadres – is a movement masterminded by the aforementioned Grover Norquist and Americans for Tax Reform. Known for remarking that he hoped to reduce government “down to the size we can drown it in a bathtub,” Norquist collected anti-tax pledges from politicians, theatrically storing them in a safe in case the signatories reneged. Kenney headed the Alberta chapter of the Canadian Taxpayer’s Federation, keeping a close eye on Grover Norquist.

In a few nutshells, one has the basic mentalite and modus opeandi of the anti-nation cadres: fleecing the natives under the propagandic cover of “family values” in an orgy of supremacist-fueled venality. While not a huge fan of Wynne, she is absolutely correct to reject any partnership with Hudak for the reasons stated above – and, absolutely correct to be open to a coalition/partnership to keep these wolves at bay.

    • TrueNorthist says:

So… Let me get this straight. Jason Kenney is “one of Canada’s original anti-nation cadres” (WTF?) and “is a movement masterminded by the aforementioned Grover Norquist and Americans for Tax Reform” (Double WTF!) Are you aware of how spectacularly unintelligible that statement is? What colour is the sky in your nutshell? Do you take it off when you go swimming?

Seriously though, that kind of idiocy pretty much sums up the length, breadth and depth of the Idle Some More Movement and it’s anti-nation cadre that is masterminded by a handful of petty thugs and wannabee dictators. Sorry, but stupid is as stupid does and you just did.
