Head of Elections NB – We are going with the electronic results. We have complete faith in the machines.

In response, NBPC president – We don’t have any faith in your machines, and want a recount of every vote cast by hand.

Liberal campaign co-chair Dominic Leblanc – Basically kissed ElectionsNB’s ass and said screw you PC’s. We won the popular vote with a clear plurality, so we win. Came off as an arrogant prick who is worried about a manual recount. He should know popular vote means shit in our system. If you’re that confident in the reults, agree to the manual recount.

Me thinks there are some lawyers in NB very, very happy tonight.

  3. When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time
a comment is added I get several emails with the same comment.

Is there any way you can remove me from that service?
    Thanks!

Sitting in my living room in Moncton last night watching the TV talking heads like Harry Forrestell twist themselves inside out to say the same thing about “The Machines” 400 different ways, was amusing albeit very frustrating. The system had been used in our last municipal elections with fairly good success and yesterday’s election was the first time it was used in a provincial election anywhere in Canada. It was supposed to showcase its wonderful time-saving efficiency in front of numerous observers from various jurisdictions. I know Elections NB has to wear this but what really pisses me off is the arrogance (or plain stupidity) of the manufacturer in not having a technician on site or even someone at their plant to answer the phone. They will deservedly lose a lot of business because of this and their CEO should be fired.

I still don’t understand why hand-counted paper ballots are no longer in fashion. They have worked well for a very long time. Who benefits from switching to machines? It ain’t you and me – you know, the folks who pay for the damn things.
