Jaime

I don’t know what is going on – Twitter is never a good place to look for context or truth – but I’ll say this: Jaime Watt is one of the best at what he does. If you ever got in trouble, you’d be grateful to have him in your corner.

  1. One of the best, but not infallible, perhaps. @gomeshi’s FB post to ‘get out in front of the story’ must have been Navigator’s recommendation. In retrospect, it could have been a devastating move. The challenge in hiring a crack PR firm is their first advice is to ‘use them’, and I imagine that was behind the preemptive move.

With all of the recent revelations, his Facebook post now reads like something straight out of “Gaslighting 101”. Curious to see how Navigator will handle this moving forward if the data surfacing continues to trend in the same direction #professional ethics.

      • Pat J. says:

Glad to see “Gaslighting” is getting back into circulation. I thought I was the only one. Just cause you’re crazy doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you! In fact, you might be crazy because they’re out to get you…

The old adage about “Never argue with a man with a gun, and never lie to your attorney — err — PR agency” may apply here.

  3. Low Noon says:

As with a lawyer, a damage control firm like Navigator can only work with the information their client gives them. If Ghomeshi did not give Navigator the full facts but instead gave a highly selective picture then they would not have been able to give him the best, or even good, advice. If they dropped him it could be because he lied to them.

so Jian Ghomeshi has dumped Navigator???
    colour me confused.

    • debs says:

uh okay got it, navigator dumped the predator, yeah dont blame them. there is no defense. And these are the guys that defended bryant over the darcy shepherd death.

  5. Just Askin' says:

Ghomeshi doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong, and his version of reality is far removed from everyone else’s. To him, manipulating and humiliating unwitting participants is normal. To everyone else, it’s sexual exploitation verging on sexual assault. Hence this scenario.

  6. Massimo Savino says:

An acquaintance of mine suggested on FB this evening that Navigator could really engender a lot of goodwill at this point by offering to represent the complainants including DeCoutere and Seth — and do it pro bono. Dunno what the legality would be though.

Kind of a masterstroke idea, I thought.

  7. Lavar says:

The question now is: who does Navigator call when they eff up?

    Karma’s a biatch, Navigator.

What about Dean Del Fatto, will he walk, or plop…?…

Warren, you’re in a better position to check this out than I am. I have a theory that Navigator was brought in quite some time ago when Jian was employed by the CBC and that therefore the CBC was the client. The media stated that Ghomeshi is working with navigator but I’m not sure this nuance would be understood or communicated. When Ghomeshi was at CBC there would be an identity of interests, but when Ghomeshi left Navigator there would be a conflict of interest, and Navigator would be advising the CBC. They may have even given the advice to fire Gomeshi in the first place – and may be advising the CBC now. Worth checking out?

Of course the other possibility is simply that Ghomeshi can’t afford to pay a PR firm anymore. He’s not going to be employable for a while and he might’ve been well compensated, but it’s still only CBC money.

    Appreciate your thoughts.

Navigator did brilliant work with Bryant. Key pieces of context that would have put Bryant’s plight in an entirely different light became known only later. To wit, that Bryant was prone to flying off the handle, that he had completely forgotten his anniversary, and that at the hastily arranged dinner that night, his wife told him the marriage was on the rocks. On the other hand, Darcy Sheperd’s chaotic life, the guy who died, was examined in minute detail. The rich and famous can afford the best talent to protect them. One might conclude that Navigator saw no possibility of protecting JG.

As we say to our 5 year old ‘tell it all, tell it early.’

  12. James Bowie says:

Jian is in trouble because he beats women. Jian beats women. Jian is in trouble.

You can hire any PR agency you want, but to “get out in front” of a story, you have to tell the whole story. If all the women you beat are going to follow up on your release to tell about how you beat them, then “getting out in front” doesn’t help you. No PR agency can help you.

The story here is that Jian beats women. He beats women, he lied to his PR agency about how many women he beat, and once they learned about his lying about how many women he has beaten, they withdrew from representation, as they should have.

Some things a PR consultant can fix. Thankfully, a lifetime of beating women is not one of them.

Ghomeshi certainly left a trail of slime. Alongwith a long line of CBC employees, Carleton Univeristy is checking whether he took advantage of any of their journalism intern students. And one CBC employee from his show says that he regulalry trolled Facebook and Twitter posts looking for fans to contact. The sad thing about this is men like him in the media/entertainment indudstry is not uncommon.

    • sezme says:

Absolutely true, and what’s worse is that fans unknowingly enable this kind of behaviour because we feel as though we know what great people they are. I remember hearing about the beloved CBC morning host (hmmmm…) Peter Gzowski, whose personal life was reportedly a mess and who was according to his biographer, “not a terribly nice man in private.” Of course being a jerk isn’t the same as being a sexual abuser.

But then there’s Bill Cosby. Everyone loves Bill Cosby. So let’s all look the other way when multiple women accuse him of being a rapist.
