Why the CBC’s “review” of the Ghomeshi mess is a joke

1. It’s being done by someone who has regularly been a CBC contributor.
2. It’s not looking at the conduct of others who have been at CBC. It should.
3. It is not arm’s length.

In that regard, here is an email sent by a former (and senior CBC) person to me this morning. Heed his/her words:

Friends,

The report into workplace harassment and improprieties at the CBC has the appearance of a white wash already.

Former employees with concerns that are unrelated to Ghomeshi specifically are directed to contact HR and not the external investigator.

How is HR, an arm of management, likely to receive information from former employees? Particularly if HR has already been involved in their disposition/settlement of a harassment claim? Why would the HR department revisit anything it previously ignored or buried with compensation?

The standard of review announced by CBC is totally inadequate.

After everything that is being covered THUS FAR, and considering that the committee that was commissioned to investigate this kind of harassment within the CBC last year has now proven to be an utter joke, having the CBC investigate ITSELF at this point is farcical. In addition, Hubert Lacroix needs to resign or be fired; his credibility is exactly zero.

If the CBC wants to survive, it becomes more clear every day that the only way to get to the bottom of everything and move forward is to clean house and have a judicial inquiry. Nothing else will suffice.

And now from what I understand CBC will not release the terms of reference for their third party investigation.

What was that about a whitewash? What a joke.

Is Gomeshi part of the CBC news network or just of the CBC? I ask because the CBC NN is doing a good job of reporting on this sordid affair without regard for the CBC management.

First the CBC and now Liberal MPs! Where will this all stop?
