Joe

Not Cocker (although RIP to him, too). Strummer – our hero, our muse, our shining light. Twelve years today.

Brilliant. Let’s hope that the concept of chivalry and bringing justice to the world are not dead.

I was fortunate enough to have seen both of them perform live. Cocker in Ottawa around 1977 and The Clash in Montreal and in the UK a couple of years later. He was good, they were terrific.

Joe had a bottle of whiskey on the stage beside his mic stand and it was empty by the end of his show. I don’t think The Clash stopped playing long enough to even drink water between songs.

Joe Cocker had the whiskey, not Joe Strummer LOL.

“Raise a toast to St. Joe Strummer, I think he might have been our only decent teacher”

    Rock the Casbah !

    “By order of the prophet
    We ban that boogie sound
    Degenerate the faithful
    With that craazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
    The electric camel drum
    The local guitar picker
    Got his guitar picking thumb
    As soon as the Shareef
    Had cleared the square
    They began to wail”

Great song, but I wonder how poor Joe would have fared out with that song today with ISIS, Al Queda and others.
