Adams and Eve: why everyone should be happy

It’s a happy day. If you take everyone at their word, that is. Here’s why:

• The Cons are happy because they no longer have around someone they insist they didn’t want around.
• The Grits are happy because they’ve boosted their caucus (short term), possibly picked up a seat (long term), and actually kept a caucus development secret, for once.
• The Dippers are happy because…oh wait. They’re not happy.

Anyway. Two out of three ain’t bad.

Well…..its convinced me to vote NDP. Asides from the ISIS mission (which I support), I see no difference between Libs and Cons when it comes to the economy or social policy. Whats the old saying? “Liberal, Tory Same Old Story”. Yep.

    • Ryan says:

Except for the marijuana thing, which, for or against, really separates the Liberals from the other guys. Impact in all sectors, but especially economy, could be huge…

    • Tia Leschke says:

If you vote NDP in a riding that was more likely to go Liberal, you have voted for the cons, Christian.

The Conservatives lose a seat that in no way affects their standing in the HOC, and they lose a headache.
The Liberals gain a seat that in no way affects their standing in the HOC, and they gain a headache.

So what does the bottom line of the balance sheet say?

Justin Trudeau strode into the Conservative armory, snuck out with a grenade with it’s pin already pulled, yells “GRENADE”, throws it a few feet, and gets hit by shrapnel, then tells the world about it. The Conservatives thank him for the favor.

    That about sums it up.

When is the NDP ever happy?

    • doconnor says:

May 1st, 2011. The NDP had been rising the polls for a couple weeks and seemed likely to get Official Opposition and the Conservatives it seem would short of a majority. Their leader had turned his illness into a symbol of strength and was well on his way to complete recovery.

They where one non-confidence vote away from government.

    • davie says:

We’re not happy (yet)…so it’s a good thing we are the party with the sense of humour.

    • Elisabeth Lindsay says:

When they swept Quebec Michael S.

  4. doconnor says:

The NDP press release seems pleased they can attack the Liberal using the Conservative’s policies.

  5. Lance says:

Then again………….maybe she was the price for snagging Soudas and the trunk of Conservative skeletons he could have.

    • Jammer says:

Maybe… although I would imagine that some manner of non-disclosure agreement would prevent Soudas from dishing too much. How much I have no idea but there would have to be some measure of limitation.

    • Scotian says:

This is a point well worth considering. Which given how close he had been in the Harper machine could be a very significant point at that.

    • ben burd says:

Big bloodyy deal, what secrets does D have that they can use? All the bad stuff has been repelled what is new? Robocalls – done and dusted, in and out fine paid. Nasty people we know them already. Looks like a big fish but is it really

      • Elisabeth Lindsay says:

Hey ben burd……wasn`t that Sonas guy somehow connected to Eve`s campaign?

        • Matt says:

Not on her campaign. He worked on the CPC candidates campaign in Guelph. But he was working in her office when his name first surfaced in connection to the Guelph voter fraud allegations.

  6. Kaiser Helmets 'n Motorbikes says:

Will Jesus T pledge free car washes for everyone in the next election, or just for Eve? This is going to end so badly for the Liberals.

  7. Michael says:

Some Dippers are happy. I’ve already heard the “Liberal, Tory – Same old story” refrain which they trot out whenever they have a particularly strong inclination to pomposity (i.e. when they’re losing, which is almost always). Nothing makes a New Democrat happier than riding the high horse to loser land.

  8. Dan says:

the liberal ra that she ends up in will not be happy. JT missed a chance to show how things could be done differently – this is same politics as usual that Canadians find ridiculous. Tell her to resign, sign up and win a liberal nomination. it is a big tent sure, but that doesn’t mean you cut the front of the line when you want to come in to get a bite. Especially if you are a Tory lifer with nothing but ‘they were mean and controlling’ as your excuse – like Harper wasn’t mean and controlling before!

    • Ridiculosity says:

Your suggestion, about Adam’s resigning her seat and winning the nomination on her own, is the only intelligent thing I have read about this today. Period.

  9. smelter rat says:

A momentary diversion on an otherwise dreary February day.

  10. davie says:

I generally pitch in for NDP…just trying ot figure out why, if I am not happy, I am smiling.

  11. Matt says:

    Adams is 2015’s Helena Guergis.

Enjoy Liberals. She’s your headache now.

  12. Adam says:

All three are happy, because Adams allows the NDP to play their whole “Liberals and Conservatives, same old story line.” It fits the general NDP narrative.

    Win-Win-Win

  13. Falstaff says:

The NDP are happy because two right-wing Tories joining the Liberals will disgust left leaning Liberals and Liberal/NDP switchers.

  14. DJ says:

Took the spotlight off the cabinet shuffle, so the timing was perfect for the Liberals.

  15. Terri Pitzel says:

I regarded her as one of Harper’s bobbleheads. I’m not keen on her, but, I hear she has a very good work ethic. I feel she is being opportunitistic, remember Belinda Stronach crossed over too citing similar reasons. Oh well…. I guess if we want cons to cross the floor we gotta expect we will have jumpers we aren’t fond of. Having said that if they are good MPs in their ridings it shouldn’t hurt to have them. We need more to jump ship.

  16. Joe says:

I think the crossing didn’t do the Conservatives any harm or the Liberals any good. At least the NDP dodged a big one.

  17. Steve T says:

Apologies, because I know in a previous post you said Eve Adams is a “friend”, but seriously – she is a liability to whichever party has her. She has demonstrated, repeatedly, that she is only out for herself, and has a strange view on her importance versus the rest of the world. Witness her tantrum at the Esso station, her dodgy lobbying with Dimitri Soudas, and most recently her inappropriate nomination process that saw her lose the ability to run in the next election.

The Liberals have a short-term gain in this (with both Adams and Soudas), but I predict they will regret it long-term.

  18. terence quinn says:

Fact of the matter is that the headlines say a Tory is now a Liberal with reasons attached to the switch……..the effect is positive for the Liberals and negative for the cons.

  19. ottlib says:

What is more interesting than the floor crossing is the spin from all of the partisans for each party.

Conservatives: “No big deal.” “She is a liability.” Whatever gets you through the nights guys.

NDP: “Liberals and Tories, same old story.” They have been saying that for over half-a-century to great success, right? They really need to come up with new material.

Liberals: “This is great!” They are probably overstating it somewhat.

The probable reality. It will be a one day story with no impact but it is still fun watching everybody get worked up about it.

    • Matt says:

You do realize Adams was told on January 29th that she would not be allowed to run for the Conservatives in any riding because of her misconduct in the Oakville North-Burlington nomination race?

The only one spinning is Adams with her excuses why she crossed the floor. The fact is SHE HAD TO to try and continue as an MP.
