Q: What do you do when a Minister of Justice pronounces on your client’s guilt before trial?

A: If you’re a criminal defence lawyer, you dance a jig, and then skip down to court to secure a mistrial, that’s what!

Your honour, my clients’ right to a fair trial has been prejudiced by the characterizations made by the justice minister.

Many have asked these question, many times:

    – Why is this person employed?
    – In any capacity?
    – By anyone?
    – For any reason?
    – Why do some people continue to fail upwards?

Peter Mackay is possibly the stupidest Minister of Justice on the planet. He also has a proven track record as a bare faced liar.

    *facepalm*

Really, MacKay? Are you TRYING to prove you are the dumbest sack of hammers in the Harper cabinet? You went to law school, you passed the freaking bar, you KNOW how this can prejudice a case, so why, Why, WHY do it!?!?!?

I can’t decide which I am having more trouble with, his decision to speak at all to this matter and these suspects before they were even formally charged, or what he said about culture and terrorism. I keep imagining how much better off we all would have been if David Orchard had known just how moronic MacKay truly was and instead had swung to Brison and not MacKay, how different and less toxic our political reality would be today.
