The emperor wears no clothes, but the kids bow to him anyway
Driving in with Son Two, Arcade Fire’s ‘Ready to Start’ comes on. I personally think Arcade Fire are insufferably pretentious/precious, and Win Butler makes Billy Corgan seem shy and retiring. But this remains a great pop song, and that line in the middle corresponds to my view of quite a bit of politics, these days.

I’m no Arcade Fire fanboy, having only succumbed last spring to picking up their work and giving it a serious listen.
That said, this may be the one band who not only deserves the hype and heaping praise, but gets a pass, for now, on the pretentiousness. They’re that good, consistently.

I really liked their first album when it came out, but they have gotten so full of themselves over the past couple years. I don’t dis-like them but I can certainly do without them.
