Dear Anonymous

Outing someone to destroy them is still just that. If you have tall tales to tell about a former politician, don’t do it here. Thanks.

Seems like it’d be a Gawker-Geithner sort of story in terms of how people would react to it, no?

  2. Jeff says:

The allegations I’ve read, which I won’t repeat, involve criminal acts which could have led to blackmail. If that’s what Anonymous has to disclose, then I don’t believe that should be called “outing.”

    • VC says:

I’m less concerned about the possibility of blackmail and disturbed by alleged involvement of minors. Also distressing is that this information is being discussed and, if the texts produced by Anonymous last night – in addition to its other claims – are true, then some staffers have been complicit in covering up an act that is beyond the pale.

  3. albertaD says:

Isn’t he already pretty much ‘out’?

  4. Ridiculosity says:

If it involves a diplomatic, security or political breach I want to read it.

If not, I couldn’t care less.

One wonders if at some point, some day, “progressive” hacker collectives like this are going to seriously cross a line that is going to discredit them in a lot of peoples’ eyes. The sense I get is that these people are a little bit drunk on their own power. I realize that a lot of the causes they advocate are, generally speaking, worthy causes. But nevertheless, they behave a bit (or a lot) like bullies at times, in that when they don’t get exactly what they want, they immediately turn to some quasi-nuclear option (and legally, I think at least some their tactics would fit the definition of extortion). In that sense, I really don’t like where all of this is headed.

They may have started with the best of intentions, but they’ve moved from social justice to simply hacking and bullying people they don’t like. Drunk on their own power I guess. Happens to most people hiding behind monitors.

  6. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (In this case, Anonymous?)

  7. Joe says:

I though everybody already knew and nobody cared.

  8. edward nuff says:

warren WTF. Almost everything you write is akin to whistleblowing and we love ya for that but if anonymous does it that,s a no no. Cmon.

  9. Houland Wolfe says:

Back in the Mike Harris era, it was widely known to Guy Giorno, Harris’s Chief of Staff, was living with John Baird, then a provincial cabinet minister. Nothing to see here, move along. Apparently, their condo was adjacent an industrial part of town. Two gay men living amidst ugliness? Now that’s scandalous!

  10. Mark says:

Russian SVR honeypot operation. Expect more damaging hacks against the anti-Russian Conservatives once the election is called.

  11. harvey bushell says:

I had absolutely no idea he was gay and I could not possibly care less.

If that’s all anonymous is going to say then fuck them.

  12. Not in the closet says:

Once again, straight social liberals p aid and abet the closet by claiming that discussing someone’s open sexuality is somehow “outing” them.

John Baird is not in be closet, so he can’t be outed. Just because he hasn’t held a press conference doesn’t mean he’s closeted.
