Wow… just wow. They threw away some candidates I could have voted for (like Warren) in favour of what? Only conclusion I can come to is that either Trudeau wanted yes boys and girls or he wanted people dumber than he is that would stand back and let him run off a cliff… (tall order in my mind). Hey Warren, we Tories would always take you! 🙂

  2. Geoff says:

It appears the green light committee was just so Justin could hand pick certain candidates in certain ridings.
I’m surprised how poorly all parties screened their candidates.

  3. Sean says:

Candidate papers signed by the Leader… psssst… its not his team, its him.

just another reason to vote for a Review if this mess isn’t concluded Oct 20th…

and BTW, there are more LPC *mistake candidates* out there…

  4. Derek Pearce says:

To be fair, yet another Conservative candidate –Blair Dale– was also yanked yesterday due to social media assholery as well, just as nutty and extreme only on the opposite side of the spectrum. This is just going to a be a thing from now on.

    • Maps Onburt says:

Yup, and we had the NDP communications director insulting the pope. There will be bozo eruptions on all sides and we should get used to it. Who hasn’t said some things on social media they wouldn’t like to take back?

I’m not excusing any of these nincompoops but like someone said, who would you rather have lead your country through its roughest period in history?

Candidate A – Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. He’s had two Mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.

Candidate B – He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.

Candidate C – He is a decorated war hero. He’s a vegetarian, doesn’t smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never cheated on his wife.

A is Franklin Roosevelt , B is Winston Churchill and C is Adolph Hitler.

  5. Jim Curran says:

Wow. Just wow. I got hasseled over a blog about a nomination fight. Hilarious.

  6. davie says:

I am beginning got get a picture of hundreds of internet gnomes poring over every internet utterance of every enemy candidate at all hours (many, likely, on taxpayers’ dimes) as we get closer to the cut off date. Whether or not the people who grow the potatoes, wash the kids’ clothes, and craft the tools we use are paying that much attention to these ‘gaffes’ is the question. Moneyball is getting to be more like a social disease.

  7. Matt says:

Confused – What exactly are the Liberals values?

They fire this guy, yet the stand behind the candidate that told someone his mother should have used a coat hanger to abort him., and she resigned the spot on her own.

Then the crazy weed lady who said pregnant women should smoke weed to get smarter kids and while Trudeau said her opinion s were not those of the Liberal party, still waited for her to resign as opposed to dumping her.

  8. Russ says:

And the Tories lost one in Newfoundland yesterday as well. Everyone needs to up their game on vetting candidates. But to do this they need to start nominating earlier and put the resources behind the committees. With over 300 ridings and potentially thousands of wannabe candidates, everyone runs into capacity issues. As for the ones you mentioned that were turned down – no comment except for – you would make a great MP Warren

  9. cynical says:

It seems to me that all parties could use a common checklist for avoiding this sort of thing.

    First thing on the list:

    [ ] Not a loon.

(I’d not make it as I hold views far too radical for any modern Canadian party, like being in favour of a guaranteed income, universal K-12 free education, universal free health care, and so on. Clearly stuff that is from a forgotten age of hope and optimism)

  10. patrick says:

Nominations only for people who have never said, written, or posted anything that they would be ashamed of later, has not had a momentary spew of dreck because you really couldn’t be bothered to think about something while trying to light a bong, is dumb, asinine, stunningly stupid, retrospectively racist if taken out of context, or in context but not what you really meant.

The line up starts behind me!

    Oh, wait……..

  11. VOTE WASTED says:

Yet another reason that I won’t be casting a ballot. Ottawa is already filled with assholes and so far the only thing each party has convinced me of, is that they’d like us to replace the old assholes with new, EVEN BIGGER, assholes. So, why should I vote again? I have yet to hear a reason. I think the best thing for all Canadians to do is to stop paying taxes, stop voting and start demonstrating. Anarchy is the only way we’ll change things. Sadly, I’m both too old to cry and too old to riot. We need the young folk off their phones and onto the steps of 24 Sussex with torches and pitchforks. I mean, nothing else has worked so why not?

    DON’T VOTE

    • cassandra says:

nice try Harper, were onto you lol
in all seriousness I kinda agree with your sentiments, revolution is next up or needs to be

  12. Al in Cranbrook says:

I, for one, can’t even fathom any longer why anyone would want to run for political office. Who needs the grief!

A while back I caught an interview on the radio with a guy whom essentially bragged about outing, and then trashing, people on the Internet. He called it the new democracy or something like that.

You know what it used to be called?

    Vigilantism.

Convicted without a trial. Guilty by declaration, and then hung out to dry on the gallows of public opinion.

Lives ruined. Marriages destroyed. Families blasted to pieces. Careers pounded into dust.

Helluva a statement about how “civilized” we have indeed become, eh?

  13. MississaugaPeter says:

I give the Liberals and Conservatives credit for getting rid of the nut bars.

The NDP are keeping theirs for the final weekend social media blasts.

  14. Dr. Reality says:

    Smart & Lazy

But I thought it was time to forgive and forget in politics? I thought Team Trudeua had finally figured out how to work this new fangled Facebook thing? I thought we’d finally got the tin foil hats fitting correctly? As all I’m hearing these days is war rooms, war rooms, war rooms, how ’bout a war story?

Prussian Field Marshal Helmuth Karl Bernhard Graf von Moltke developed an interesting way to grade his officer corps.

    • Smart & Lazy: I make them my Commanders because they make the right thing happen but find the easiest way to accomplish the mission.
    • Smart & Energetic: I make them my General Staff Officers because they make intelligent plans that make the right things happen.
    • Dumb & Lazy: There are menial tasks that require an officer to perform that they can accomplish and they follow orders without causing much harm.
    • Dumb & Energetic: These are dangerous and must be eliminated. They cause thing to happen but the wrong things so cause trouble.

The reason none of the parties have broken out is that the highest they’ve achieved is smart and energetic. Worse, there is lot of dumb and lazy. Worser, as yet another of the much-touted Green Light Ceremony hits the bricks, staggering levels of dumb and energetic.

The Trüdeaubunker will never hold up to this pressure when E minus 7 hits unless they bring in outside help asap. Orange is flooding in from the East, Blue from the West. Conservative majority. NDP opposition. Trudeau loses his own seat.

I could run a better campaign from my rumpus room with my ipad.

  15. Scott says:

It’s an election. Shit happens. Lots of people here need to mellow out.

    • Matt says:

Totally predictable reaction from you when a member of Team Trudeau is involved.

    • ralphonso says:

I agree. The “outrage” over these candidate flops is silly. Get used to it. As we get into the generation that lived their lives on line, this stuff will matter less and less. I don’t think anyone under the age of 40 gives a hoot about these online remarks.

  16. pod says:

Something has been lost ” Quality of candidates has terribly been diminished in politics”

Good people are no longer coming forward. It really is a ” thankless job “

    • Al in Cranbrook says:

      Precisely.

To be blunt about it: How to you think a wet behind the ears pup like Justin ended up leader of a national party, if not by default?

      • Scott says:

And just who in the hell do you think is responsible in the main for our nasty politics Al? I’ll give you one guess and it isn’t Libs or Dippers.

        • chuckercanuck says:

Of course its the Liberals. The things they said in 2004 and the years earlier turned Canadian politics sour. They said so many horrible things about Stephen Harper (guns in the streets) and of regular Canadians (beer and popcorn). They were incapable of having an honest debate because they were mired in scandal and bereft of ideas,

          • Scott says:

Typical Con comment. You true believers can’t see the forest for the trees.

          • Vancouverois says:

            Spot on.

IMHO, this is also an important reason why the Conservatives still haven’t tanked, in spite of Duffy and other scandals. Canadians became so inured to the left’s regular Two Minute’s Hate against Harper and his party that even valid criticisms of them no longer resonate. How can they be believed, when a few years ago the same people were screeching that a Harper majority would ban abortion and imprison homosexuals?

It’s like nobody in the Liberals or NDP knows the stories of Chicken Little or The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

  17. chuckercanuck says:

    Dear Warren,

    O/T question:

So yesterday night, I saw Probit was calling. Nerd that I am, I answered so I can register my support for the great and mighty Stephen Harper. I went through the 25 questions – which featured a lot about distinctions between Trudeau and Mulcair, along with off questions about local infrastructure projects. At the end, I asked the caller, “who is sponsoring this poll?”

He said, sheepishly, “the Liberal party”.

So I felt bad because I had just spent 15 minutes ranking Trudeau about as low as it can go and I didn’t want to make him cry, but oh well. Then I had a question that you or your nerdy sycophants might answer:

My riding is the safest Liberal riding on the planet. I am the only non-Liberal voter there (except the crazy French guy who votes Bloc down my street). Why would the Liberals waste precious resources polling people in the safest Liberal riding on the planet? Is this routine or is it possible that its not such a safe seat anymore and a bunch of wobbly people might be turning orange?

    Thanks!
