Just watch me

This true?

If so, watch out!

(Seriously: in the US, you could run an entire election campaign on a slip-up like this.)

In the US where many candidates for high office are millionaires???

  2. Joseph says:

‘Just watch me’ Now THAT’S a good one.Best wishes to you and your wife!

  3. Scott says:

The actual news is that Trudeau is on a roll. Graph going up on on a 30 degree angle. Dippers going down on a 30.

    • Matt says:

Last new poll I saw was EKOS on Friday.

      NDP 30.2 (Down 3.4)

      CPC – 29.5 (up 1.4)

      Libs – 27.7 (up 1)

Ndp losing ground in every province except Quebec. However, EKOS has the Liberals at 45% in Manitoba. Nobody else has them anywhere close to that level of support in Manitoba.

      • Scott says:

I was referring to the Leger graph. CPC in third. Grenier has them in third also. Plus Forum if you want to count it. Libs on a steady climb in all of them. Dippers going down in all.

  4. Joe says:

The word callow comes immediately to mind.

  5. BlueGritr says:

Wondering what else the Cons have banked away: stuff on Trudeau. The moment the Tories are cast in a bad light, all of sudden something out-of-the-Blue (sorry) emerges on Trudeau Pup — even if it may not always be true. Get ready for down-and-dirty Lee Atwater politics, come October (if not sooner).

  6. Mark says:

He’s never hidden the fact he’s wealthy. Why shouldn’t he have a nice watch? Personally, I don’t give a rat’s ass. It’s people like Al Gore, who preach changing our lifestyles to aid the planet, who have a carbon footprint the size of Missouri, I criticize.

    • Derek Pearce says:

Those of us losers who hang out here at WK’s site and talk politics are not like the average voter who, if they hear the guy who’s supposedly fighting for the middle class wears a 20K watch, will think “What an asshole”. I guess I can believe he’s clueless enough to wear that on campaign trail but does he not have staff smart enough to say “no clothing or accessories worth more that $1500 as long as you’re in public life” ? And I say that as someone who has only had a $700 suit as my most expensive cllothing purchase ever, and even that is rich for the “middle class”.

  7. davie says:

Not sure how many Timmie’s customers would notice. all they would see is a guy who keeps track of the time.

  8. gyor says:

There is a funny verison of that which puts out that Mr. $20,000 watch is saying no to a $15 an hour minium wage.

  9. Michael Bluth says:

Definitely won’t be a big story. This is still not a good story for the Liberals.

Adds another slight knick to Trudeau’s armour. There are many options. None good.

Was it a gift? Only powerful people give $40,000 gifts. They expect something in return.

It’s a knockoff? Best case or worst case? Proves there was nothing sinister other than bad judgment. Is that who you want representing Canada as head of government? Adds to the just not ready narrative.

Did he buy it? Nobody middle class buys themselves $40,000 watches. Maybe insanely indebted people living far above their means? I guess that demographic could be part of a winning coalition.

This is why Harper employs a stylist. Part of her job is to ensure the image Harper wants to portray at every opportunity there will be photos.

That Butts et. al are running this campaign without someone to at least take care of that last part is telling of the lack of professionalism. I think a good stylist would have told Justin to lose the watch altogether. Doesn’t really appeal to the hipsters. Plus the added bonus of the champion of the middle class not being seen wearing a watch worth more than the average family in his riding.

It’s that attention to detail that is going to undo Trudeau’s campaign. Labour Day is here. The gloves are off!

Not that Harper owns any $40,000 watches…

  10. fan590 says:

Great, some more media attention for Justin!

“Middle class” voters (and working class voters) don’t have a problem with someone who is aware of economic realities, has good policies, and might just be a little bit higher up on the economic totem pole.

The sincerity is what matters and Justin oozes it.

  11. Tim Gallagher says:

the best ad of the campaign so far, but then I am a beatles fan

  12. Dan says:

It’s not good for JT, although, most people understand his background, its been well broadcast, trustfund kid, lived life as a hobby so far. The reality is that as we go forward, we have, statistically a three way tie so far, anything up to this point in the election race is a draw. The real battle starts soon, it would explain the CPC being patient to the point of being painful, whilel the NDP and Libs have been busy promising everything to everybody, with other people’s money, except of course for those evil nasty wealthy people.
The real ‘ammo’ will be coming out soon, this race is soon to get interesting. I believe that, at least the CPC, learned from the last BC election. Its not how you start the race, its how you finish, and run the whole race, its a marathon. For an incumbent government, their position right now ifs good, it won’t take much to jump 5% in support, and that might be all they need. Reminding taxpayers they are the only party that lowers taxes, as the other two want to dig deeper into all of our pockets, despite their misdirection.

  13. Jim Curran says:

It’s true. And so what. In fact, the CBC zooms in on it on the story (with no reference as to why) of the launch of the Liberal Plane. What? Are the reporters pissed that he has a great watch? Really? WTF. At least nobody’s pissed on his watch yet. FFS.

  14. Ridiculosity says:

The watch will not change the fact that Harper’s time in office will run out on October 19th.

  15. Joe says:

Quite apart from the cost of the watch inquiring minds want to know if the wearer of said watch can read said watch. Analogue watches seem to be going the way of the dinosaur everywhere but on young Justin’s wrist.

  16. Elisabeth Lindsay says:

It looks like an antique, so I am assuming it is an inherited keepsake?

  17. Derek Pearce says:

I can’t believe the sycophancy I’m reading in the comments here. My bona fides of fucking detesting Harper are real, so I’m no fan, but I am actually chuckling reading this shit where everyone is saying “oh we all know he’s wealthy it’s no big deal.” In the grand scheme of the campaign this likely is not a big deal, but I’m taken aback by the absolute cluelessness of Trudeau and his staff for allowing this. Fighting for the middle class is great if it doesn’t come across as mere noblesse oblige.

    • Ridiculosity says:

Seriously? You’d rather Trudeau wear a sweater vest and pose with a cat on his lap to make him look more like an “Average Joe”?

F*CK average. If that’s all we’re looking for in a Prime Minister, that’s all our country will ever be.

  18. Scott says:

According to that CBC VoteCompass thingy, I’m a Dipper. Lol

  19. Christian Giles says:

Trudeau is a trust fund kid. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth and is only where he is because of his last name. He has no idea about how the vast majority of people in this country actually live. The watch is further proof of that.

    • Corey says:

If you know anything about Pierre Trudeau and the way he raised his children you’d know that’s completely untrue.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Christian Giles,

Do you really think anyone will go against Justin because of a watch? Please. Get real.

Sure, Justin is a multi-million dollar trust fund beneficiary but what has he chosen to do in life? Not sit on his ass and count or spend his money.

Instead, he has embraced public service. Why don’t you try it for a while before shitting on him for doing so.

    • fan590 says:

      No it isn’t.

People expect a well dressed pol like Justin to have some nice things and look professional.

Just because you go to a Tim Hortons doesn’t mean you can’t have a nice watch. And just because you fight for the middle and working class doesn’t mean you have to dress like a cheap street fighting man stereotype.

Just more good media for JT because he’s the real deal and rising way above expectations. The guy truly is a gritty fighter and won’t back down.

  20. JonT says:

Actually, the Schaffhauser Portuguese wrist watch is listed at $31,000 or $35,000 with sales tax… unless he got it as a gift from an adoring supporter. You can never tell, but if it was so Justin would have had to declare it as a gift to a MP.

Justin has good taste because he has had a life of privilege and cushiness living off a trust fund and the public teat. Prince Prime Minister Justin de Trudeau …. aaaah

  21. pod says:

Who Cares about the watch? …..Nobody really cares with JT. Most people already know his background.
Are we saying those with a background like JT do not care about others and the middle class?
Wow take a look at his support network- some were former PM’s and the TOP 1% in the country. Who is the only one asking to tax the Top Tier income earners.

Dippers- They really have NOBODY though. Who are the orange BQ?
    Somebody should ask that one.

    CONS- LIARS- Watch CBC Tonight.
As usual Harper NEVER takes responsibility. Always someone else at fault.
Duffy may be a sad case, but “Those Boys in the PMO” tried to cover it up to make them look good. They should all be Fired.
I consider this a grave INSULT to people as a whole, and am sickened by this gang. GOOD Time TO GO.

At least JC took (responsibility of the sponsorship scandal) for the Libs even though he knew nothing about it.

    LIBS= ON the WAY UP

    • fan590 says:

When they win, this is all JT.

His team is less than stunning (ahem) but JT is a great retail politician and far brighter and hard-working than most people expected.

Hopefully he’ll have a better team with him in 2019.

  22. Ted H says:

So what, he has a classy watch, doesn’t mean a thing.

  23. Domenico says:

    Inherited from his father.

Back to to your tea leaves.

  24. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Warren,

I just love it when desperate people (and parties) can only stretch it by using twisted logic.

Boy, I’d better put in a call to Catherine Murray over at BNN, to tell her never to run for office because of that Rolex. Ha, ha, ha.
