Quote:

“A group of environmental activists says Justin Trudeau has declined a set of solar panels offered for the prime minister’s official residence.

Starting last Thursday, demonstrators from several groups staged a sit-in outside 24 Sussex for four days, and offered Trudeau a “welcome gift” every day of the protest. The protesters, who were supported by 350.org, are calling on Trudeau to freeze any expansion of the oilsands and kickstart a “justice-based transition to a clean energy economy,” according to the event’s website.

Trudeau has decided not to live in 24 Sussex because the residence is in dire need of renovations and repairs. Instead, he has opted to stay in Rideau Cottage with his family “until further notice.”

The protesters wanted the five solar panels to be included in the overhaul at 24 Sussex.

A representative from the Prime Minister’s Office declined to accept the panels, states a news release from the demonstrators, but told them they would receive an “answer to their demands.”

There’s an excellent chance that these people are a bit crazy, so let’s get the hand puppets out, shall we?

  • It’s not his house.  It’s the people’s house, and they let Prime Ministers live there.
  • The place needs lots of fixing up, because it might start falling down.  Why don’t we all focus on that first?
  • Do every one of you have solar panels on your home? Didn’t think so.

Some folks have been in the sun for too long without wearing a hat, methinks.

Lordy Lordy , next will be 5 humongous plastic trees , a windmill or two , a rock form the canadian shield , a pamela anderson bra….these jerks just hurt their cause… an Al Gore pair of loafers – all worked into the new 24 Sussex

    Warren,

Visited Stornoway during the Ignatieff Interregnum and it is at least equally run-down.

Well I think it was mentioned here many times before. Many of these people voted Liberal because they hated Harper so much, not because they know what he/Liberals are about. In their head he is one of them because they voted for him. My biggest hope is that the Liberal government of today can run the country at least as good as Chretian did.

Warren is right. The National Capital Commission must have a lot to say about the repair planning.

Crazy, perhaps, but (for me) without knowing these people that may be a bit harsh. One could argue they’re savvy activists taking advantage the situation to bring publicity to a cause they believe in. Frankly, given all the green/environmental rhetoric coming out the Liberals and other “progressive” parties during the Harper years it doesn’t surprise me that environmental/climate activists want substantive change to begin at once.

Can someone please explain what “justice-based transition to a clean energy economy” means? Is that a real thing or just the gibberish that it sounds like?

True, but how is that relevant? How is truth relevant to such an issue, when it’s really all theatre one way or another? False move for JT. He should have accepted the panels and mounted them on the garden shed.

Agree with your post, Warren, except that they’re not crazy.

“The protesters, who were supported by 350.org,”
They’re religious fanatics, and there’s a significant difference.

Every day the Ontario government has to pay between 1.2 million and 1.7 million dollars to dump excess electricity, why on earth would 24 Sussex need solar panels.
I’m still getting accustomed to a Federal Liberal govt, even tried a morning after pill and that still didn’t help, but, since he’s stood up to the jolly green Suzuki and has taken a pass on solar panels at 24 Sussex he’s kinda growing on me.

Well at least Justin finally (sort of) said no to somebody. That’s at least a start. Because being a real leader entails considerably more than just saying yes to all interest groups who have their hands out or have some pet grievance.

I wish more Liberals had Warren’s common sense.
