At 7:10 a.m., SOUNDCLOUD not working when I click on it.

    My take:

An entitled person did what entitled people do.

Trudeau is a god. And he does what he wants.

I never saw anything like it before 2006 and anything like it after. The way that Justin parted people in front of him as he walked and how people were in complete awe of him. The truth is that in 2006, it was NOT Gerard Kennedy who was kingmaker, it was Justin. It was Justin’s speech/encouragement at the GK headquarters as the next vote was happening that delivered so many votes to Dion.

    Liberal senators, be damned.

Candidates who did not worship the alter of Trudeau, be damned.

In my old age, I have come to a conclusion that there must be a gene in most people’s DNA that allows incompetent offspring of initially great people to hold others in awe. The only reason why history is littered with so many pathetic kings.

Even after monarchies, our democracies are manifesting the gene. Look at George Bush Sr., who was incredible smart. Then his sons. In Canada, you have Pierre Trudeau, a brilliant mind. Now his son. Now the Conservatives are also considering both offspring of Mulroney and Clark to go up against Trudeau. Odds are very strong that Chelsea or Ivanka or Malia or Natasha will one day be President.

    • Art says:

Hi, does that mean only nobodies like you and me can have smart progeny? In actual fact, it’s been shown that intelligence is highly related to genetics.

      • MississaugaPeter says:

No, it means that the offspring of great people oftentimes benefit from who one of their parents are. First in monarchies, now in democracies.

I hope you are not delusional and really think that any Justin could have become leader of the federal Liberals.

To think that there are over 315,000,000 Americans and only Bushes and Clintons can be POTUS for the majority of the past generation plus is just crazy.

        • Glen says:

Exactly – picture any one else with the exact same CV as Justin Trudeau, who did not have the famous father and last name and could not put together an articulate speech that was not scripted.

Then picture them then entering, then winning the leadership of the LPC and going on to be PM.

          Not very plausible, is it?

        • Art says:

I don’t get your beef Peter, or Glens. We can’t know everyone. These kids have a high profile so are better known and able to have a leg up when campaigning. That’s the way it is. Always was and always will be. Same with movie stars etc. You can accept it or make yourself crazy. #tilting at windmills

      • Cory says:

Environmental and social factors also can play a role. For example, an intelligent parent who’s child is exposed to lead, or vice versa, a parent with cognitive issues due to lead exposure and a kid who wasn’t exposed and does better at school.

There may be a link, but there it isn’t always clear cut.

  2. Warren says:

I am a mere Calgary lawyer of no consequence, my friend. All I can do, and did, was read the Criminal Code of Canada, which is the ultimate arbiter of these matters:

    Assault

265 (1) A person commits an assault when

    (a) without the consent of another person, he applies force intentionally to that other person, directly or indirectly;

    (b) he attempts or threatens, by an act or a gesture, to apply force to another person, if he has, or causes that other person to believe on reasonable grounds that he has, present ability to effect his purpose; or

    (c) while openly wearing or carrying a weapon or an imitation thereof, he accosts or impedes another person or begs.

The grabbing/yanking/pulling of Gordie Brown – against his will and without his consent – would meet this definition.

Does that mean Gord supports a charge? Doubt it. Do I? No way. Would the cops ever charge the top lawmaker in the country? Not on your life.

That all said, it seems to meet the definition, above. But what do I know. I am, as noted, a mere Calgary lawyer of no consequence, etc.

    • Joe says:

I think you are right about the assault that took place Warren. There will be no charges filed but an assault took place on camera and there can be no real debate about it. However what disappointed me is the speaker’s/sergeant at arms’ lack of response to this incident. People who attack other people in the august chamber should be removed from said chamber for a time regardless of their position in the government.

    • Peter says:

Warren, you deserve endless kudos for your take on all this, but let’s be a little careful about overheated rhetoric. Yes, the technical definition of assault is any touching at all, but that isn’t what the public associates with the word and the law doesn’t enforce it that technically. Cops don’t charge people for congratulatory slaps on the back or stealing kisses under the mistletoe at Xmas parties. I’m as appalled as anyone by his arrogance, but assault for taking someone’s arm to guide them somewhere? That would make his hugging Ambrose a sexual assault, no? Ashton is being ridiculous and Brasseau is playing all this too cute by half. If we over-dramatize what happened, we’ll just invite a reaction.

When I was young, we used to think we could build a more peaceful world by hugging one another more. I certainly didn’t foresee a time when we would need legal advice before trying.

Thank you for putting this on iTunes. I rarely get a chance to listen to anything at home, but with long commutes I download a lot of podcasts for the car. Downloaded and subscribed!

I love your chemistry. Always liked Adler, more so his radio show than his SunTV stint. I thought he lost a little of his fairness and objectivity on TV and was more gracious on the radio.
