Few things indicate so starkly why they should remain.
Heh. If the Brits and Americans were as free with advice to Canadians on how we should vote as we are with them, we’d go ballistic.
Add the Canadian High Commish in London, Gord Campbell, our Finance Minister, Morneau, and our Prime Minister, Trudeau to the list with Putin, Trump and Le Pen in foreigners meddling in the the way that Britons vote. I would sooner we did not jab our fingers into other peoples’ cake this way.
Brits are going to vote to leave, but end-up staying. Just watch.

The thing that hurts the “leave” campaign the most are the people who are prominently advocating for it.
In reality, I think the leave side has a case to make about the EU needing some kind of reform. When Greece bottomed out financially, a lot of British folk were livid that the EU stepped in with care-packages without any conditions applied. So when Greece elected an anti-austerity government, many in countries like France and the UK felt like parents begrudgingly supporting a bratty teenager with no regards to consequences.
That is essentially where the resentment towards the EU started culminating. The problem, however, is that the Leave side is fighting for all the wrong reasons. Namely, immigration.
Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage (well known assholes) have campaigned on a platform laced with xenophobic undertones. More significantly, the Leave side has been an overtly anti-logic and anti-statistics campaign — disregarding facts and evidence presented by experts as elitists bureaucratese. This is exactly the kind of behaviour of anti-intellectualism that pervades the Trump campaign and its ridiculously ludicrous. To be fair, theres a fair bit of hyperbole on both side about the Brexit, but the Leave side has unequivocally abandoned any sense of thoughtfulness and adopted a campaign entirely of demagoguery.
So, the referendum effectively boils down to a coded vote: A) Stay with the status quo and negotiate better terms with the EU that favour the UK or B) Leave the EU and take a significant step towards nationalism all while forgoing essential trade agreements and risking an almost inevitable recession.
I don’t know why, but it feels more and more like the world is actively trying to destroy itself by following idiots like Trump, Johnson and Farage off a cliff.
[Side note for Political nerds: David Cameron has survived 3 referendums during his tenure as PM thus far; preventing the split of the UK itself and now — possibly — the split of the UK from Europe.
With ~3 million votes in it’s currently 48.3% Remain and 51.7% leave.
Yet again pollsters get it wrong…
Still too close to call, about 2% for the “Leave” camp.
But I’m likin’ it!
Clearly, enough Brits have had enough of being told what they can do, and can’t do, by politicians and bureaucrats who are completely unaccountable…to anyone, forget about the British!
The Brits have been there, done that, as a nation, and owe no apologies or knee bending to anyone.
A bright spot on an otherwise all too gloomy horizon.
For a change!

Today was a win for “democracy”, in every sense of the word!
Ha, ha, ha…
That’s what you get for thinking that elites have a clue.
Next stop…Trump!
