If someone mocked your wife’s looks and said your father is a murderer, would you endorse him?

No sane person would. But the Trump Troops aren’t sane. They think Ted Cruz should put Donald Trump before his own family, I guess.

Some of this latest GOP contretemps flared up on my Twitter feed, with a Canadian (!) Trumpster defending the bilious, barf-inducing billionaire. My response:

Answer: Ted Cruz would in a second if Trump was 10 points ahead of Hillary.

The way Trump supporters treat Donald is alarmingly similar to the way the Germans treated their Führer; the man is irreproachable in their eyes regardless of his idiocy.

He could walk out onto Fifth Street in New York, shoot Ted Cruz in the ass and Trump supporters would still expect an unwavering endorsement from Cruz.

Even the reaction to Melania Trump’s speech by the convention attendees was fucking astonishing. To hate the Obamas to the degree that these people do and still be able to justify Melania’s usage of Michelle’s speech verbatim, is incredible.

Just a few days ago a Republican politician who endorsed Trump demanded that Hillary be brought in front of a firing squad. If this is the kind of fanatical nationalism that is festering in Cleveland, then I struggle to see how the US in 2016 is all that different from Nazi Germany in the early 1930s.

Oh yes I would. Live on National TV please. I would not need a teleprompter either, ROFL. Maybe need a bulletproof jacket though.

I think it is more complicated than that. All the GOP nominees promised to support the ticket and this was an obligation created to prevent Trump from running as an independent. Second, is it wise to immediately accept the reason offer by Cruz for his refusal to endorse Trump? His refusal to do so hurts the chances of thousands of Republican candidates running for various positions across the USA in November. One may argue that he refused to endorse regardless or indifferent to the fates of so many other candidates. Third, the lesson to be learned may not at all be that of whether he endorsed trump but simply that given an opportunity of hanging his political future, he did so in a grisly and quite voluntary display on national TV. He is fortunate that his future aspirations may need to be confined to a Texas-sized venue, but not a national one.

Understood. Cruz shouldn’t have spoken at the convention. That would have been the proper thing to do if he didn’t want to endorse. Kasich, Bush, Fiorina, etc… all took the high road. Instead, Cruz tried to make it all about himself and ended up looking like an arsehole. His plan to set himself up as a front runner for 2020 or 2024 is up in smoke now

There is a reason Cruz is the most hated man in the Senate.

Trump only attacked Cruz’s wife and father after Cruz had attacked Melania Trump first, and after Cruz’s dirty trick on Carson in Iowa.

In schoolyard terms, Cruz started the fight. Trump ended it.
