Well now that’s sad. RIP Prince Buster. It may be hard to believe now but there used to be quite a large live ska scene in Canada. Back, starting in the mid 80’s to mid 90’s bands like King Apparatus, Hopping Penguins, Skaface and others would regularly sell out clubs the size of Lee’s Palace (~400 cap). There were even a couple of small (non-racist) 2-tone gangs I used to see around here in Toronto. They and the larger and longer lasting live reggae scene pretty much disappeared by 1999 and that was that. No idea why… there are currently dance clubs where DJ’s play ska and reggae but live bands? Not a lot going on.

I dare anyone to try and sit still when ‘Al Capone’ is on the turntable. It’s simply not possible!
