Bag of hammers

Warren, not sure what specifically the lie is you’re referring to. Optics are important and, notwithstanding the arguments you made the other day, this was not a great move on the part of Trudeau or the PMO.

  2. Matt says:

    Where’s the “lie” exactly?

That the PM gave Aga Khan $50 million? Sure that’s not exactly accurate as it was the Canadian government who gave the Aga Khan Foundation Canada $55 million, as previous Liberal and Conservative governments have given the foundation IIRC $300 million plus since 2004.

    • Matt says:

Ohhhhhhhh, the boldface is the lie – That LeDrew told Chretien it was time to leave office.

      • bluegreenblogger says:

Yes. People who want to be Mayor of Toronto do not generally tell the PM to step down. They normally lickspittle about looking for allies if they get close enough. As Warren was there at the time, I presume he is cryptically referring to the LeDrew behaviour he actually saw, vs the cohones LeDrew claims.

  3. BillBC says:

I’ll defer to your knowledge here. But what do you think of the argument that the optics were really bad on this one?

  4. bluegreenblogger says:

lol, I recall the Bag of Hammers crack. That was in response to the political finance laws Chretien introduced. Hmm. the Martin clique were not fond of that measure, but whatever the motives, it was one of the very good things Chretien did, lower fundraising caps and the per vote subsidy.

Meanwhile, if I’m to trust Desmog, Liberal Government lawyers (Justice Department?) are attempting to have a British Columbia Court quash an impending citizen lawsuit prior to a judge’s decision to proceed to trial or abey. Regardless, the judge would publish the evidence consider plus explanation of the decision. Tho trial? Oh just that Mount Polley thing. You know, the tailings pond restraining wall burst. Its like all those other earthen wall dams kind of hanging there in Ft McMurray over the river eh that leads to the Athabaska delta & opening to the arctic. Its the BC Government (not open for business currently, or all fall, cancelled by Christy Clark by fiat you know – kind of a prorogue without a subsequent election) plus the Mt Polley donors owners ! Goodness ! Is Justin Trudeau aware of this? Has anyone asked him if he’s serious? I’m trying to weigh the optics of the Aga thing.. or even elbowgate vs a prolonged legal agony over what will surely go also to lower courts against the various defendants. He already has the Government lawyers hacking at Harper’s Folly and the Veterans. That disgraceful howl from Harper’s Failure was ‘we owe no duty of care to disabled military veterans, the old WW2 Promise was essentially just political talk.. from the PM of the time. More Goodness sake! Is Justin blowing staggering $$ on this error in judgment too? Think there was an election promise on that, non? Or was it ‘just political speech’ ? Well the optics of a family vacation will be just fine. The great helicopter hue n cry was laughable. The usual suspects. The security of the PM , not to mention family or associates & security was paramount. The trip to a secure island over open water duh.. The Khan has a fleet of these choppers. But Justin needs to look after these real crisis with real consequences.

Funny to hear a LPC past pres. talk about arrogance & entitlement, particularly in Ottawa. It’s a DNA/drinking water kind of thing – no?

  7. P. Brenn says:

Does Mr Ledrew still have have a role in the party? Why is he so mad and public. Should he not be working in background to help sort out these things? Or maybe he already tried? sour grapes?

  8. Liam Young says:

Trudeau has had a year to dance through the mire left by Harper.
Now he needs to stop making suspicious, amateur and – frankly – buffoonish mistakes like that seen over the holidays.
I know he’s trying to interact – how many times did Harper make public appearances where people could actually ask / say / do anything beyond script? – but there needs to be a balance or his popularity will come to a startling halt.

A good first step: electoral reform. Give democracy back to Canadians before some oaf like Kevin O’Leary sells it off to the highest bidder!

  9. Dan Calda says:

Given that the Canadian media seems to be aping America…like really? This is a story? Why?
I guess the Trudeau contingent and their RCMP security detail should have brought their sea doo’s.

There are many issues to press Trudeau on….
This sure as hell ain’t one of them.

  10. Jeff Paul says:

I remember when LeDrew was relevant. I think it was 1997.
