MTM, RIP

How important was she? So important.

For instance, this – a woman talking about reproductive freedom, which was broadcast in 1974.

NINETEEN SEVENTY-FOUR.

As she was an extremely talented comedian who reached iconic levels, I’d like to think she would be tickled if we mourned her like this.

I laughed like crazy when I first saw that episode so many years ago……and it still makes me laugh……even on a sad day like today……thank-you for posting…..

    Warren,

Thank God she was there after the astonishing failure of the ERA, first adopted by the House in 1971 and Senate in 1972.

I wonder how many little girls became journalists because of watching the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

And in season 1, episode 1, she rebuffs Lou Grant’s interview questions about religion and marital status. She tells him it’s against the law to ask those questions. Not even sure if it was against the law back then, and if so, I’ve got to think it was fairly common.

Mary Tyler Moore’s show as the flagship of a bold era in American TV comedy in the along with All in The Family and later in the decade, the first seasons of Saturday Night Live. I have many happy memories of watching the show with my mother, father and sister as a child and adolescent as well as Rhoda and The Bob Newhart Show. I would also like to cite her performance in the rarely seen 60s comedy, What’s Bad About Feeling Good, where she played a nihilistic beatnik turned sunny optimist along with George Peppard.
