China military official says war with US under Donald Trump ‘becoming practical reality’
War with the US under Donald Trump is “not just a slogan” and becoming a “practical reality”, a senior Chinese military official has said.
The remarks were published on the People’s Liberation Army website, apparently in response to the aggressive rhetoric towards China from America’s new administration.
They communicated a view from inside the Central Military Commission, which has overall authority of China’s armed forces.
I’m not sure the US people would tolerate a one week trade suspension with China, never mind a war.
There is a quick way to remove Trump. Under section 4 of the 25th admendment tne Vice President and half the cabinet can sign a letter declaring him unfit for duty and he is out. Its designed for the President being in a coma, but it can probably include madness.
Mikhail Gorbachev has also said it feels like the world is headed to war. The axis of evil that is Brannon, Flynn, and Miller probably does want to manufacture one to rally some of the people here around Trump.
Still, as of today, I’d put my bet on a second American Civil War before another World War.
Funny, I have heard of twitter wars, or tweet wars. I always took it as a metaphor. It is this $hit show of a transition. A year of lame duck followed by another year of incoherence and the World has changed before you notice. People who talk about war from a position of weakness are not always contemplating war. China built those Islands as un-sinkable aircraft carriers surrounding the whole South China Sea. Their strategy is simple. deny US carrier groups access to the South China Sea. That is why subs, missile boats, and shore & island based missile batteries have all been built. But the US has a lot of carrier groups, and China has about a decade to go before they could actually deny the area to the US Navy. That could change with shifting alliances, but at this moment, the US has the allies they need. I bring this up because, unlike the current US administration, I trust the Chinese to only do what is good for China. Losing a shooting war is something they will not do lightly. But seriously, never forget that China goes to war sometimes at the drop of a pin. Ask Vietnam, or Korea, or India. All three instances, one sunny morning, a million Chinese troops crossed a border.
They already can take out any US carrier group with a 1000 miles of the Chinese Mainland. Whether they would want to politically is another thing. Their tactics involve raise missiles and salvos of my issues aimed at the bridge — hundreds at once. U.S. countermeasures aren’t adequate. The US won’t risk losing a carrier to China. Empires are not allowed to be seen to lose. Ever. They only pick on countries that can’t really shoot back. If the U.S. loses just one Carrier the whole world knows that they aren’t invincible.
Therefore I doubt the U.S will provoke a shooting war. It would be economic and military suicide.

I dunno. I do not doubt much anymore. I find a war far more likely today than I did yesterday.
My thoughts are more in line with what Sean McLaughlin is saying above; I see America disintegrating into civil rife before any foreign nation decides to wage any semblance of conflict with the US.
War is expensive; China knows that.
The cheaper alternative is what Putin has succeeded in doing, which is: causing American society to fracture so deep and fast that they fight amongst themselves until they’re no longer a super power. Much easier for an adversary to defeat an enemy with two broken legs caused by self-inflicted wounds.
I said this a long time ago. When you have this kind of jingoism and when information becomes confirmation bias – and you have actual conversations about alternative facts gleaned from fictionaries it’s looking too much like fascism – literally everything is about us vs them, and fear, and cheap tabloid bullshit passed off as information – don’t expect good things to come from this – the world fails when they get it wrong for the convenience of a fools ego –
I think in high school they have to spend a lot more time teaching critical thinking skills because the extent of the unfettered bullshit people are fed today is likely the biggest threat to the free world – propaganda is out of control and combined with modern communication it’s literally destroying the benefits of freedom and constitutional rights –
they do teach critical thinking in schools. problem is not the schools, it’s what’s taught when the little blighters get home.
I never really fully understood it until I took a university philosophy course. It made me the slave to sciencism I am, today.
A number of nations have claims to watery domain in the South China Sea;they overlap one or more of their neighbours’ claims. Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Viet Nam, Brunei, Malaysia, and China have claims. As well, USA says it is involved because they claim it is international waters. Since we read only about China’s claims, it seems ot me Washington (and our media) want us to think this is just a beef between Chinese aggression and freedom loving America. So it looks like China is still a target, obht for the past, and for the future.
Washington has put a lot of its resources into the military violence basket, and Washington’s history is to use military violence often. I think that in Washington a fair number of deep state types are in panic about he prospects of OBOR, and that if they cannot control OBR, and its outreach to Europe, Africa and and inclusion of the rest of BRICS, they would choose to disrupt it with military violence. Thay tried to exclude China form Pacific trade with Trans Pacific, but that seems to have faltered. Even Canada has left USA behind in requesting membership in AIIB, which will fund OBOR infrastructure. The Pentagon has been a successful power and wealth gathering centre all my life and they seem to be gaining a lot fo influence with the new administration and its foreign policy. Break off Russia from Iran and China, discipline China militarily, and everyone will fall into line for Washington.
Just as Canada is in a position regarding Mexico of either openly siding with Mexico, or standing aside and hoping we are not next, so also, Russia and, perhaps, Iran, will be in a position of either supporting China, and the promise of OBOR, or standing aside, allowing China to be disciplined by USA, and hope that they are not next.
The new admin in Washington comes in with no clear (public) direction in foreign policy, so the billionaires and generals are grabbing seats and influence to push their agenda.
China has only 1 aircraft carrier and its smaller than an US, British and French model.
China’s military power is an old Soviet style land based army and air force where quantity is supposed to make up for quality.
The Chinese are rightfully nervous when it comes to the Paracels & Spratly Islands because their legal position is non existent and they are trying to bully their way in controlling the South China Sea and sea lanes. Vietnam has actively ruled over both the Paracels and the Spratlys since the 17th Century – and has the documents to prove it.
If anyone else tried this, the UN security council would be up in arms.
Please, lets not get over excited.
The Chinese are pushing the boundaries as far as they can, they can’t afford a war, their economy would tank and that would be the end of their forward movement.
