It’s my understanding that Brian Mulroney has been instrumental in smoothing the way for Canada-US relations and that his contribution is a direct result of a request from the highest levels of the Trudeau government. To my mind, that sort of puts this charitable event in a somewhat different light.

By MBM’s own admission, he had over $10,000 in cash in the Pierre Hotel in New York.
It is illegal to have that quantity of cash in the US. It can go by way of an administrative process or a criminal process.

That’s not quite accurate. It’s perfectly legal to have that much cash. What’s illegal is to transport it over the US-Canada border without filling out the required paperwork. Last I heard, Mulroney’s spokesperson would neither confirm nor deny whether Mulroney had done so.

The mulroney family, Pitfield family and the Trudeau sons all grew up together and lived in close proximity to each other in the dame neighbourhood as the Demarais/Chretien family. The Trudeau kids lived about a mile away on Pine ave but were all close friends of everyone in that area of Westmount. Mulroney is a big fan of JT and quietly supports him.
