Tim Harper perfectly quotes Michelle Rempel

…who perfectly describes Ottawa.

This thing is just getting started. Some are now frantically trying to get ahead of it, and some are trying to pretend it’ll all blow over.

It ain’t going to blow over. And it’s pretty hard to get ahead of a tsunami.

(Oh, and this: documents can be disappeared. The people who prepared them, not so much.)

I wonder if Warren is referring to this interview Mr. fancy socks gave to the CBC?

“Trudeau says zero tolerance on misconduct toward women applies to him as well”

I’m guessing visitors to your website have quadrupled in the past 36 hours. By frequenting this site I feel as if I have a front-row seat to this developing story.

Abuse and harassment takes many forms. It’s not just men sexually harassing women. There are people of both sexes treating other people of both sexes in an abusive manner. It’s rampant in the civil service.

From the CBC interview yesterday when asked if any of his past actions (WITH WOMEN!) could be misconstrued, Trudeau said “he didn’t think so.”

Its beginning to feel like a scandal is about to erupt. It is really extraordinary that the CBC would be asking Trudeau about his past relationships with women. His tentative denial of any past sexual misconduct will not do anything to squelch interest in the rumors – if anything it should have the opposite effect.

It would be fantastic if this resulted in more empowerment of victimized women to speak out. But I hope it also has a deterrent effect: fewer men subjecting women to such unacceptable treatment. It seems that trying to instill basic respect for others has proven elusive. If what it takes to get results is fines, jail time and humiliation, then bring it on.

Well said by Ms. Rempel. After Blandy Scheer goes down in flames next election, I hope she runs for the Tory leadership. I might even take out a membership to support her.

    • Pedant says:

She was one of two Conservative MPs to support Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith’s sensible animal welfare bill (which was callously blocked by Trudeau and Cabinet). That alone made me an instant fan.

Disagree about Scheer though. Bland and squeaky-clean are entirely appropriate for the #MeToo era. I don’t think he’ll win next year but he’ll do respectably well.

“It’s a highly tribal environment” – This statement is spot on, and perhaps that speaks to core of the dysfuntion in our political system. Whether it is circling the wagons to defend someone or turfing them when they don’t toe the party line. We argue more about socks and look for the next gotcha moment, than having a serious discussion on how we fix the systemic misogyny in political (and other) organizations. AND take action
