Conservative MP allows comment calling for Trudeau to be assassinated

Colin Carrie is, regrettably, still the Member of Parliament for Oshawa. The comment below has been on one of his videos.  For days.

Someone, I hope, has called the RCMP.  After the week we’ve witnessed – after today’s terrible events in Pittsburgh – this insanity has to stop.

I’m not on any social media other than looking occasionally looking at a few peoples twitter accounts as typically one doesn’t need to have a twitter account just to read post, so a legit question:

I’m assuming the above is from Facebook? Does the original poster have the ability to remove a comment that someone else has made on his or her post?

I would assume by the “Reply” the original poster can respond to the individuals comment, so the question is why hasn’t Mr. Carrie, assuming he knows it’s there.

Wow. That seems a bit of a stretch. People can comment online in a variety of ways. Trying to patrol whatever comment some wingnut throws on your social media in a timeline that appeases the people bored enough to keep eye on this stuff seems a fools errand.I don’t agree on this one but I do enjoy reading your site and respect your opinion.

I don’t agree at all that it’s a stretch. He’s a public figure running a social media account, presumably because he thinks it boosts his public profile. He has a staff. If they can answer his mail they should be able to monitor this stuff, even in a timeline that appeases the bored. He may not be liable in a legal sense, but he sure should be politically.

Scheer is the leader. Hope he acts like one, and fast.

” Scheer is the leader. Hope he acts like one, and fast.”

And does what, exactly? Berate Carrie for not scrutinizing his Twitter account 24/7?

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        Fred,

Public officials don’t normally have the time to do that. That common sense mission falls on their staff.

Glad to see that Carrie did do the right thing but staff should have deleted that comment ASAP.

        • Fred from BC says:

So if the comment gets posted at, say, 11:00 PM and no one catches it until 8:00 AM or so, who gets fired? The person who was supposed to be working the night shift, monitoring that account every second to make sure that nothing offensive is posted?

Just another reason to avoid “social media”.
