#LavScam latest: is Justin Trudeau SNC-Lavalin’s water boy?

Pretty much.

From today’s Globe. There is apparently no rule, no law, no principle that Justin Trudeau will not break to assist this sleazy multinational.  None.

The Trudeau government is considering changes to ethical procurement rules that stipulate how long a company can be banned from bidding on federal contracts, a revision of policy that one expert says could offer Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin another means of coping with the fraud and corruption charges it faces.

SNC-Lavalin, the Quebec engineering giant at the centre of the Wilson-Raybould affair, faces the charges stemming from an RCMP investigation into its business dealings in Libya. If convicted, it could be banned from bidding on federal contracts for 10 years.

Public Services and Procurement Canada is proposing granting itself more flexibility in deciding how long a company is banned from bidding when convicted.

SNC-Lavalin has been seeking a negotiated settlement in which a company admits wrongdoing and pays a fine, but avoids a trial. Last September, however, the federal director of public prosecutions rejected the request and informed the company the prosecution would continue.

Officials in the Prime Minister’s Office have denied putting inappropriate pressure on Jody Wilson-Raybould when she was justice minister and attorney-general on the case. In the ensuing fallout, she resigned from cabinet and Gerald Butts, principal secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, stepped down. Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion has launched an inquiry into the matter.

And no legislative loop holes for pipelines ….but criminals oh we’ll find some get out of jail card for ya.
So in sum in the last few weeks-
    1- Destroys the Liberal brand
2-Turned western separatism up to 11
3- Turned western resentment of Quebec up to 11

Well, #2 was already at a 9.5 and #3 was already at 11. But #1 you are quite correct about especially in places like the 905 and that’s why the election outcome is very much in question now.

Well guys, the questionable state of the next fed election is getting less questionable as each day goes by…I predict there will be massive changes in October, with a significant reduction in Lib MPs..and hopefully a new PM and a Conservative majority…but too early to put any numbers on it!!

Sounds like a political calculation and a very revealing one that Quebec seats are at risk.
    Interesting.
Mr Kinsella you likely have a better read of this from the liberal side, so the question is this.
What is the risk to the Liberal party if they lose seats in Quebec?

      Joseph,

Got to disagree and go with what Derek says. The longer Trudeau pushes the envelope with SNC-L, the more seats the Liberals WILL lose in Ontario. That’s the main game.

The PMO is adrift, not only getting this wrong but also forgetting that in Sponsorship, guess which province got the most ticked off and voted accordingly? Hint: It wasn’t Ontario. So, even in Quebec, this could hurt more than most Quebecers realize but the lose power scenario is primarily based on Ontario seat losses.

I remain staunchly opposed to a DPA for SNC-L and I’m not alone in my circle.

I can see the new policy now……

The restriction in contracting with the Feds will now vary in length. The PMO’s new policy direction will be easily understood; particularly in Quebec.

Here is the gist of the new rule.

“The more money you direct to the Liberal Party, its affiliates, or its other members in good standing; the lesser the time restrictions will last.

Go from ten years, to a few months….all depends upon the number of zeros’ you have on the cheque.
