I love political streeter spots

I’m not so sure about the closing tagline. But, one, I’m sure the guys tested the living shit out of it, and it undoubtedly worked in groups.

Two, it touches on the main reason why I don’t like the guy.

Whenever people ask me why I don’t, I tell him that he brings out the Holden Caulfield in me: that is, I can’t stand phonies. And he is the biggest goddamn phoney I’ve ever seen.

Anyway, here’s two of the spots. Comments are open for you to tell us what you think.

Looks like Andrew Leslie has had enough of the PM Zoolander Suicide Cult: https://globalnews.ca/news/5226314/andrew-leslie-2019-federal-election/

    • Leave-Justin-Alone says:

These actors are so authentic, so very believable, Warren. Scheer has poor judgement: He demanded Trudeau resign, He greenlite this ad, He drinks Qu’appelle lake water. Anyway, that was the best take they could get out the lady on the bench? The tag line is the only good part of the ad: it’s meta: these are paid actors that benefit from art council funding (you know, taxpayer funding). if Warren was on the team we’d win this thing, he’d find these actors and we’d have them admit they vote Liberal because Trudeau is not only a member of the thespian guild But he’s also its president. And that’s by the way why I, a paid commentator, recommend Audible to my one friend and my dog Red. Get a 15% discount with the promo code: #LiberalSilentMajority

  2. Joseph Taylor says:

Are people supposed to believe that these are real people and not actors? I don’t really understand the genre.

  3. Ren G says:

My personal opinion. These are not random “person on the street” interviews. Total actors, totally rehearsed.

But most people won’t notice that.

    • Vancouverois says:

      Won’t they?

I mean, I know you supposedly can’t go broke by underestimating the intelligence of the average voter. But… really?

  4. Only phonier the Trudeau is political streeter spots. Interview dozens of people, edit it down to a few out-of-context sound bits and suddenly your talking points look like they are the pure beliefs of the common people.

  5. Doug Brown says:

I’ve never come close to voting Liberal and view Justin Trudeau as absolutely unsuitable to any position of influence, so I’m not among the target audience. That being said, the tag line rings true and sets the stage for many sequels. The actual bodies of the ads are OK, but not all that memorable. They would be more effective if they pointed out phoniness that was less obvious

  6. Wayne Knodel says:

Since watching him the first time, smugly lecturing in Parliament about the evils of Stephen Harper and the Conservatives, my personal “Bullshit Alarm” clanged loud and clear. It has now been ringing incessantly, for 3 1/2 years. I completely agree with your assertion about his paper thin veneer of truthfulness.

    • Leave-Justin-Alone says:

Being a hypocrite is kind of part of partisan politics; don’t ya know, Wayne. It’s easy to criticize when you’re not in power because you have no real way to understand what Harper or Trudeau was dealing with because he was governing Canada at a different time; then you get into power and realize this is complicated and you realize that it’s not the person in power, it’s the nature of power itself that shapes them. I don’t know I’m getting through to you, Wayne. It’ll be alright.

  7. Fred J Pertanson says:

I liked the first one better than the second one. I ended up on youtube listening to McKenna acting like a child and Freeland screeching at Polievre. Also saw Trudeau tripping over words yet again. These and other examples of incompetence are free – no need for the conservatives to pay actors!

    • Joseph Taylor says:

Catherine McKenna is probably the most arrogant and self righteous person I have ever seen in my life.

  8. Miles Lunn says:

This one is even better https://globalnews.ca/video/rd/1515500099717/?jwsource=twi . Compares Trudeau to Trump who we all hate and everything said there is true about both.

  9. Charles says:

I adored the Trump comparison which points the audience slowly to ….. Trudeau. They could have limited the ads to this one.

The other ads speaks true, but I would prefer either using real people or making it obvious they are using actors. The-almost-credible actors makes it sound like the Conservatives were trying to deceive. But would people care?

Sheer should have benefited to define himself in those ads, because soon the Liberals will launch ads portraying him as a Neo Nazi, most likely. It may backfire because Trudeau promised “positive politics”, or it may be scary enough to bring the sheep back to the Liberal cult tribe.

I still think that it wall be about the economy and that Trudeau will be able to manipulate the numbers at election time thorough the controlled government trolls to paint a rosier situation that what it is actually. I recall the unemployment number in U.S. who came magically under the 8% (7.9%) few days before the second term Obama victory.

    • Charles,

Re: Scheer: if Soldiers In Our Streets didn’t work, why would so and so is a neo-Nazi? It will backfire big-time just like Is This A Prime Minister?…

Sure, the election is going to be all about the economy and pocketbook issues but to manipulate, or even massage the numbers, you need a permission slip from voters — and they generally don’t give one if they no longer like you. That’s Trudeau’s problem right there.

  10. Steve T says:

As others have posted above, I’m on board with the message, but the actors aren’t that good. Wish they could have rehearsed their lines a bit more. Or perhaps all the good actors are left-leaning? 🙂

  11. the real Sean says:

OK, had a chance to watch… I agree with the message, but the production is contrived. The woman at .20 in ad one in particular seems disingenuous. Although admittedly I am culturally biased against people with lots of tattoos telling me what to think about politics.

The best Tory attack ads I remember were CPC 2006 with the people reacting to stuff on TV. They were smart because they let the bad guys do the talking, showed the voters reaction and communicated what Joe and Jane front porch should be thinking. Excellent connection of raw emotions with preferred behavior. Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj8XhGm40Ag&list=PLlneoMV1GMXG_4NmxZjWletLCX1BgPl1j&index=7

  12. 416Firearmsowner says:

    Brilliant concept, terrible execution.

Tories continue to be devoid of any sense of aesthetics. The people in the ads seem wooden and overly rehearsed, like a bad student film.

“He’s just not ready” was a brilliant slogan. But people had their fill of Harper after three terms.

    • 416,

Yeah, they’re 50-50 right now. The ads against Justin last time were a monumental flop but contrast that with Just Visiting, which regrettably, hit the jackpot.

(Shows I’m still an Ignatieff guy. LOL.)

    • Walter says:

“He’s just not ready this time” was the biggest lie that Harper told in his 10 years in office.
It is now obvious that Trudeau will never be ready to be a good PM.

  13. Patricia Walker says:

I get the feeling I am watching paid actors, NOT real Canadians, kinda ironic calling a guy phony and using paid actors to do it…

  14. Jack B says:

Justin Trudeau in 24 Sussex – will likely be fatal for the Canadian Federation. How long do you think, in this day and age, will the Western Provinces remain willing to accept the dictates of a Quebec-controlled government hostile to the very basis of its entire economy? This child doesn’t have the political skills or the experience to navigate such a potentially-perilous situation, for not only is he unfit to lead the nation, but he is also an unworthy successor to his predecessors as Leader of the Liberal Party who, for all of their many faults, were at least men of accomplishment and substance.

  15. Gilbert says:

I think the ads are fine. It’s hard to see at this point how the prime minister can possibly get re-elected. Saying “China” instead of “Japan” with the Japanese Prime Minister was brutal. How embarrassing!

    • Fred from BC says:

“Saying “China” instead of “Japan” with the Japanese Prime Minister was brutal. How embarrassing!”

      * Twice* he did that. He doesn’t seem to have any idea how insulting that is to anyone of Japanese ancestry…

(funny how the MSM pretty much ignored it, too)

  16. Doug Brown says:

The one comparing Trudeau to Trump is better

  17. Ratt says:

Wait!! The woman on the bench is that…. Dana Carvey???
Terrible ad imho and I detest Prime Molester Pony-Boy but the Trump fade out ad is fantastic!

  18. Vancouverois says:

    Terrible ads.

The message is on point, but it makes the Conservatives look like massive hypocrites for calling **Trudeau** phony while using such obvious actors. Tjat alone completely undermines the message.
