Seems to me the parties don’t have to attack the media. A look at the nastier partisan stories from them, tips folks off to what they are about. The media has declared war on a certain segment of voters and their choice. It’s a strange thing to do because by every measurement they are a failing industry. This Gotcha! business only drives more folks to social media. It’s perhaps no better than the MSM but it’s free and offers a better balance of opinion than we are seeing thus far in Election 19.
I agree with the Kinsellian Rules of play. Unfortunately, the advisors of political parties are just not that smart anymore. And they don’t even seem to be bright enough to read this website either. Only those that truly hold political management to a high standard are going to be bright enough to read this website.
You are indeed an excellent political tactician & guru, Warren. The problem is NOT with you!
It looks like Andrew Scheer is actually planning to stand by candidates whose transgressions are relatively minor, far enough in the past, and who express remorse.
Is that a bad strategy? Or is the public fed up of “gotcha” politics, and ready for this new more forgiving approach?
What I wonder is how John and Jane Q. Public would react if this position came from Trudeau. Ideally, in an intellectually honest society, the reaction should be exactly the same.
So far, at least one columnist seems to approve the sentiment, though he questions how well Scheer is carrying out the policy, especially with regards to himself:
I think Trudeau could easily get away with such a policy, but it seems he doesn’t even have to. As far as I can tell, nobody is asking questions about the *Liberal* former MPs who actively voted and spoke against same-sex marriage. They’re getting a free pass.
But maybe that’s the answer to your question right there.

The Tory braintrust should follow your advice re: that candidate in Mississauga-Streetsville (assuming today’s story in the CBC is true).

Vancouverois,
