The nuts roll to the corners

You’d think the party brain trust would have known better.

This is a dangerous road in the tussle for official Protest Party status.

  2. Ronald O'Dowd says:

I thought May was more politically attuned than that.

    • J.H. says:

Off topic Ron & WK but wondered have you seen this?

I’m betting Trudeau’s happy he owns the CBC and the so-called comedy they produce. You’d never see this there.

      • Douglas W says:

J.H. Thank you! Everyone should be watching and talking about this segment. Comedian Hasan Minhaj stung JT, a few times. JT had the “you Son of a B*tch” look, as he glared Minhaj. Please, everyone watch! Btw: Minhaj and his staff did their homework prior to meeting with our PM. Impressive, the interview (not our PM).

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        J.H.,

Just watched it now. I think Mercer should come back during the campaign and see if Trudeau is capable of taking what Mercer can dish out.

        • J.H. says:

My question would be is Mercer inclined to do it like Hasan? I have serious doubts about his willingness to hold Trudeau;s feet to the fire. As for the others in the CBC firmament like Mark Critch, that’s obviously a non-starter.
          BTW here’s another good one;

          Cheers!

          • Douglas W says:

J.H., you’re on a roll. I wonder: do the war rooms of the Opposition parties pay attention to websites like Warren’s, where effective content by its contributors can fuel parties’ strategies + responses. This site, in particular, should be mandatory viewing, 5-6 times a day. The contributions are that good.

          • Fred from BC says:

“This site, in particular, should be mandatory viewing, 5-6 times a day. The contributions are that good.”

I’ve tried long and hard to find an equivalent site. There just isn’t one.

        • Cam Kroeger says:

          Mercer? like CBC Mercer?
“and see if Trudeau is capable of taking what Mercer can dish out.”
          with a CBC laugh-track?
hey Ron, get out more, take 22 minutes and talk to someone outside your comfort zone.

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        Poor baby!

    • Ron Benn says:

Why? Aside from speeches filled with rhetoric and homilies, what has she ever said that indicates that she is politically astute, as contrasted with merely being a political opportunist?

    • Peter says:

She is very personable and a delight to meet, but she has a kooky side and can be cutthroat to anyone who challenges her. I’m not up to date, but as recently as five years ago, there was a lot of ideological diversity and division in the Greens under their common environmentalism. She’s been largely given a pass by the media for most of her career, but I’m not sure how well she would fare under the microscope.

      • Chris says:

Miss May is a devout Christian, something that the average Canadian never heard about. Her recent CBC interview must have been a big shock to alot of people.

  3. Peter says:

As much as this rhetoric is ostensibly aimed at “voters”, clearly they are talking about their own candidates, officials, supporters and maybe even some M.P.s. They can’t blame this one on the big bad Cons. When did the NDP ever have trouble finding candidates willing to run in hopeless ridings?

I wonder when the Liberal war room will decide they have to turn their guns on the Greens. Scheer must be enjoying this immensely.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Peter,

They won’t give the Greens a rough ride cause they need May in a minority scenario. Ditto for the other two parties.

  4. Jamie Gilcig says:

Some Party’s run to win; and then there are the NDP.

    • The NDP runs because they believe in thier principles. Which kind of party deserves your support?

      • Ron Benn says:

Which set of principles are you referring to Darwin?

The principles where the NDP speaks out in support of the people who work hard for a living, cutting steel, welding, using heavy equipment to build pipelines?

The principles where the NDP speaks out of the other side of its mouth, denigrating the resource industry?

        Just curious Darwin, just curious.

        • They support people who work hard for a living, cutting steel, welding, using heavy equipment to build the massive amount of infrastructure needed to eliminate the use of fossil fuels.

          • Fred from BC says:

“build the massive amount of infrastructure needed to eliminate the use of fossil fuels.”

You must have a different definition of the word ‘infrastructure’ than the rest of us. I think it means roads, bridges, tunnels, power grids, pipelines, sewer systems etc…what do *you* think it means?

Oh, and since the world will still be running on fossil fuels for at least three more decades, what *that* means is that the NDP really isn’t supporting the people working *right now* are they? They will be waiting to support these future ‘green’ workers, instead? Not really a recipe for electoral success right now, is it?

          • Infrastructure also includes subways and other transit, geothermal heating/cooling systems, expanded and electrified railways, hydro, wind and solar power plants and power grids.

As the world winds down fossil fuel use over the next three decades, economics dictates that the most expensive and most emitting sources will be eliminated first, like the oil sands.

  5. Mark Greenan says:

Did she part with you because she rejected eminently reasonable advice like this?

  6. Walter says:

So 14 racist NDP members are welcome into the Green Party.
At the same time, Liberal MP (Sangha) warns that his own Party is rife with Sikh extremists.

It appears once again the CPC is the only moderate party.

  7. the real Sean says:

why don’t these numbskulls go full racist and join Mad Max for the parade through crazytown?

  8. Steve T says:

Wait, I thought only Albertans (or westerners) were racists, and everyone in Ontario eastward was enlightened and “woke” ? That stereotype was a such a timesaver for voters in the GTA and eastward!

  9. Luke says:

My thinking is that a lot of people would do what I generally can be bothered to do, which is to skim headlines and conclude, “Wow, the NDP just completely bottomed out in NB and the Green Party just gained formal support, and what with the Greens’ success of late in NB and PEI, ouch for the NDP.”

Perhaps if NDP or whoever else beats this racism angle over the voters’ heads in the right way it will sink in. Myself, I’m more just confused about the point of the comments. I mean, I can see racism being an issue, but is their complaint that the NDP leadership didn’t give them any tools to help address those kinds of issues and reservations, or what? The rest of the expressed reasons for dissatisfaction makes more sense to me.

    • Fred from BC says:

“I mean, I can see racism being an issue, but is their complaint that the NDP leadership didn’t give them any tools to help address those kinds of issues and reservations, or what? ”

Good question. Mine is this: “if the NDP is full of racists, how did Jagmeet Singh even get elected to lead the party?”

      • Luke says:

My suspicion is that this is a lesson in poor communication with understandably inflammatory consequences

        • Fred from BC says:

“My suspicion is that this is a lesson in poor communication with understandably inflammatory consequences”

I suspect that you are right. I saw new information today suggesting that some aspects of this were not quite as bad as initially reported, might be ‘spin’, might not.

      • Chris says:

For a moment let’s ignore the race issue. How is it advisable, possible, or even thinkable that a newly elected federal party leader not visit an entire Canadian province in the TWO YEARS between his leadership victory and the next federal election? This suggests astounding naivety and/or complete incompetence in the NDP leader’s office.

  10. Max says:

Discussions about race ought to be important when it comes to politics. More so in our relationships and how we conduct ourselves. Unfortunately, it’s easy to become apathetic if not desensitized to this sort of thing. While I agree with you Warren, I do not believe you, if that makes sense. Simply because Trudeau and the Liberals have consistently shown themselves to fail at ethics, and yet we see the polling needle inch its way back up to where it was with “The Natural Governing Party”. While it’s a bad reflection on each of these 14 individuals (and their crass political opportunism), and a bad lock for the Greens, given the response to Lavscam, and Liberals poised to be re-elected, I’m afraid we’re gonna get the government we deserve. (Where is electoral reform when we need it?)

  11. Yet another Calgarian says:

Those 14 might be better at home in the Greens according to the Leger poll from June.

57% of Greens approve of limiting immigration as opposed to 44% of NDP voters.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadians-favour-limiting-immigration-1.5177814

  12. Miles Lunn says:

Really stupid statement, although asides from Quebec, which due to its history has a strong issue with religious symbols, I believe NDP decline has less to do with Singh being a Sikh and more limited space on the political spectrum. Trudeau has swung the party far enough left there is little daylight between the NDP and Liberals, so why waste your vote on a party that has no hope on winning when you can get much of the same from a party that can win. If the Liberals were more centrist like in the Chretien/Martin era, I believe the NDP would be doing better, although still struggling, but not in danger of losing its official party status.

  13. Joseph says:

This could become awkward very quickly.
