The final word on Don Cherry

I guess he’ll be expunged from the Order of Ontario or the Order of Canada and the Walk of Fame ihe has these honours. He had a Legion jacket on as he was expressing himself and I knew that was coming.

  2. Lyndon Dunkley says:

There are two types of Canadians – those who think any non-positive portrayal of immigration is a capital offense and those who have had their favorite coffee shop overrun by eastern European drywallers in a Pig-Penian cloud of cigarette smoke, cheap cologne, bedazzled jeans and hostile behavior towards women.

Right-wing authoritarianism & racism has absolutely no place in Canada, or North America. Mr. Cherry is ample indication that all broadcasters should be involved with Continuing Education at some level so that they are able to think inclusively instead of actually becoming exclusionary via skin colour or ethnic origin.

There is a difference between educated discourse and that which is not. Mr. Cherry is representative of the latter.

    Good riddance, Mr. Cherry.

The distance from your view on “…should be involved with Continuing Education…” and a gulag archipelago isn’t that far.

It’s called free speech. Many on the left want to use the “hate” attack on it to end dissent.

      • Robert White says:

Actually, in Cherry’s case it’s called freedom of ignorance & spew instead of ‘speech’. As Warren always states on this website….’there are rules’ of behaviour.

      • Gord,

I don’t know if it was hate speech, as deliberate intent in this case is open to interpretation.

What I will say categorically is that it was absolutely not neutral speech. But yes, it was free speech.

      • Derek Pearce says:

He’s still perfectly free to say what he wants, he just isn’t getting paid to do it now.

        • Terry says:

This is precisely the point. Free speech doesn’t mean an absence of consequences. The guy is on the national airwaves making completely unsubstantiated accusations about “you people” and EVERYONE knows what that means, whether they dress it up in free speech nonsense or try to split hairs (e.g., he just meant people not wearing poppies). Haha! Tough shit.
