The Beach isn’t the Beach anymore

Meat On The Beach, RIP. Increasingly, the things that made the Beach a great place to live in are simply gone.

Sad when “institutions” or “landmarks” or “icons” close….lack of custom or?…In my hometown we are losing viable long term businesses due to exploitive landlords who think they should be getting market rents equivalent to Vancouver. We recently lost our Fields store(nothing special, but it was clean, neat and an affordable department store for downtown residents, many perhaps living on a fixed income) when the new owners of the building tripled Fields(HBC) rent. The huge downtown space now sits forlorn and empty. Sad.

The Meat on the Beach was a wonderful store it is going to be missed by many that live there but things do change and the Beaches has changed a lot…not the place I visited for walks along the board walk…gone are those days!
